i have two computers hooked up to my router, one laptop which is wireless, and a house computer, wired. i've tried to share files from the laptop to the computer and the computer to the laptop. i've went to about 3 different websites and tried what they said and it never works, in order to send files i use yahoo instant messager anyone help me? any other ideas thanks
Try this ftp server... very easy to set and use. http://www.pablosoftwaresolutions.com/html/quick__n_easy_ftp_server.html Enjoy
Im no expert but i barely got it going today with a bunch of configurations...i probably made it harder for my self. What I did was selected a new folder in "my documents" (on my notebook and my desktop) which I called geestarshare, i then right clicked on the folder and selected "Sharing and security" and checked the box that says "Share this folder on the network" (on both desktop and notebook I did this) Since Im running a wireless network I selected start/control panel/Network and Internet Connections/ and then Wireless Network Setup Wizard, from there it pretty much set its self up. I did this on both computersand from therr I was able to share files. I know this is kinda a ruff sketch but I will try to help as much as possible.
sorry i haven't wrote back just got an e-mail now that the thread has been updated i haven't figured it out, im gonna try the link below
i can't try it right now, sister need the computer 4 school homework or something, let every1 know what happenes thanks 4 the help so far
Hopefully your running XP (cause that is how I know how to do it) You need to run the network wizard. Both pc's need to be on the same workgroup. when setting up your network choose: This computer connects to the Internet through another computer on my network or through a residential gateway. You'll need to reboot both pc's after running the wizard. Make sure each pc has different names (computer description) Then click start -> run -> type cmd -> then type ipconfig ... this will give you the IP addresses of each PC. You will need this if your running a firewall. You will need to enter each others pc's IP into your firewall as a trusted pc. This will give you access to each pc. If running no firewall it won't matter. Now to see if your pc can see your laptop click start -> type \\pcname ex. my other pc is named kids-pc. and I shared the shared documents folder. to access the pc I would type: \\kids-pc to access the shared folder: \\kids-pc\shareddocs
can u explain what u mean by computer description i didn't c that anywhere, just the adminastrater name i made the names but i can't share files, don't know the next step
Control panel -> system icon -> computer name tab Are you running XP? If yes, did you run the network wizard? to run the network wizard: click start -> Accessories -> Communications -> Network Setup Wizard
You ran the network wizard on both pc and laptop? Both are on the same work group? Both have different names? Are you running a firewall? If yes, which one?
i do have all the things done so far that u said. i have all my firewall software disabled/uninstalled, don't know about the linksys router
don't worry about your router. Only thing I had to do with my linksys is change a setting for transfering files on IRC. Ok. Can both pc and laptop access the net still?
I did your configuration -flip- but it seems to take awahile to access the ohter computer, is this normal?
i think it reconized it, what is it suppose to say if it does, 1st it was saying it was wrong, then i typed the correct way and it went down to the next line but didn't say anything
