Hello I've had my R4 for longer then one year and heard that they stopped updating their software and discontinued selling them. I've read a lot of topics about the other flashcarts and what do people recommend buying. It goes in the order of: CycloDS, Supercard Ds-One, Acekard2, M3 real(itouchDS/sakura) I was wondering if I should purchase a new flashcart or should i just keep my R4? Do you think the games will keep working or maybe a company like square enix will put some obstacles in their games like they did with crystal chronicles? Thanks for your insight.

'if its aint broken, why fix it' as the saying goes.
if you find certain games dont work on it, try using YSmenu as the alternative firmware, it is based on the DSTT firmware

I agree with Mary. I wouldnt buy an R4 now, but since you already have one theres not much reason upgrading until you have to.

IMHO, don't switch until you can't do something that you HAVE TO (or, at least want to really badly). (ex. You want to upload to PBR on the Wii or play Geometry Wars)

If your not a poorf4g then go ahead and buy a new DS cart.

Sell off the R4 on craigslist.

Don't fix a problem that doesn't exist! Even the current firmware of R4 works great. I haven't encountered a single problem for over two years. Purchasing a new flashcart will be of no benefit to you at the current moment.

Save the money and invest it in a few more games. :)

Then you're a lucky one. Take a look at the front page here in the DS section and see how many of the problems are related to an R4 as compared to other flashcarts.

As I said before, if your R4 works then theres no reason to go out and buy a new cart. Why upgrade unless you're having problems and have to? But I wouldn't advise ANYONE to buy an R4 now.

You know, I think a lot of those problems arose from ppl buying fake R4's originally. I have at least 20 friends, all of whom still use their R4 with no problems. Maybe we just haven't played enough games to realize any incompatibility problems. :)

Haven't tried the AceKard, EDGE, Cyclone or other brands yet. May do that once my R4 reveals its outdatedness.

Yah, given the choice I probably would opt for something other than an R4 now (if I had to buy a brand new one). There's AceKards, Cyclone, EDGE... a lot out there that still receives support.

I would say the M3, with the latest operating firmware it is one of the best to use, very few issues and is THE best if you want to add the GBA slot and play gba games as well.

I think if you have used yours for over a year then you have nothing to worry about.

I recently got an R4 as a Christmas gift but have never used it. After doing some web research I'm too worried about trying it out because it could be a fake and possibly brick my DS. Not worth the risk IMO. I didn't spend any money on it so I'm not that torn up, hehe. I bought a CycloDS instead. It's a lot more expensive but I don't have to worry about identical knock-offs and clones.
