Shut Down problems

    Hi, im having trouble shutting down my pc, it just wont. I press shut down, it brings up its closing down some programs as usual etc. But then it just sits there. Im having to turn it off manually with the button, I dont like doing this. HELP please. Im running windows xp home edition on a fairly new dell dimension 8400.

    Does it bring up end programs, if so which program is not ending.
