can anyone help i have bought a eurovox v 2008 blackbox and set it up on my ntl line. after completing the set up it found channels but no names they were all labelled chxxx. When viewing these channels there is sometimes a partial image but more often it says no signal. This flashes
between no signal and updating code every five or so seconds.

After taking the box to a friends house in the next street and trying it there the box worked fine on the first attempt. I later discovered that when it is plugged in at my house the signal goes from upper 90% and completely drops out every five seconds for approximatly five seconds and then returns. It sounds like a faulty signal but my ntl box when plugged back in works fine. The ntl guy put on a 4db equalizer on to the line when the ntl box was installed but it seems to make no difference with either box.

N** UK I presume. Do you also have a 4Db attenuator at the STB as well as the equalizer on the incoming line?

    It is N*L

About the equalizer. There are two cables comming from the box on the wall. One cable goes directly to the broadband modem. While ther otther cable originally had the 4db equalizer on it and then this plugged in to the set top box.

We have tried the eurovox with the equalizer and with out, it seems to make no difference. Also no difference with N*L box

Is there a small 4Db attenuator at the back of the stb also?

If we take the attenuator off completely, then N*L set top box behaves as expected and the eurovox is exactly the same as if the attinuator was on it.

Assuming i need a variable one, would the current setup (with or without the attinuator) account for the signal alternating between high 90%s and zero signal? What could be cuasing the regular alternation. I dont think the attinuators are resposible for this.

Reason I gave you he link above is because it was a similar problem to yours and as you will see within that link I gave out quite a detailed description of what an attenuator and equaliser do in this equation. If you take it to someone else's house it will work so your problem is with your signal balance.
