SIM card question

I use the Motorola A630 phone w/ T-Mobile just incase you think that info helps. I was wondering if there is a way to store numbers on both the phone and the SIM card? When storing on the SIM I dont have the same options like applying a ringtone, picture, category, or icon (for home, mobile, work, etc..) But if I just store on the phone then if/when i get a new phone i have to resave them all or lose them. This has been an issue for me many times so is there anyway to just save the numbers on the SIM as like a backup and then also on the phone for the better phone options?
