Simple File transfer server help needed

i need advice on setting up a server using a spare computer running xp that i can use as a simple file server that is accessible through the internet....

i have looked at Apache and others like ByteHoard but not had time to set them up properly....

i dont need a fancy system but would like a simple HTTP or FTP server

is there such thing as a Auto installer type system?
