i have recently formatted my pc for the first time ever. i have lost my mainboard disk but believe i have gotten the drivers and graphics updates that i need off the web. but it just dosnt run aswell as it did b4 for example when i run kazaa the programe rums extremly slowly where as b4it was fine and the graphics dont to seem to be as smoothly runin as they did b4. is there something i have missed that i need to do. all i did was boot from cdrom (xp) and install/format that way and then installed the drivers that i could think about and update windows software. do i need to adjust anything in bios or something. cheers neil

Odds are when you reinstalled, Windows defaulted your harddrives to something called PIO Transfer mode... PIO is sloooooooow. To check/change this: 1. Control Panel 2. System Properties 3. Hardware Tab 4. Device Manager 6. ATA/ATAPI IDE 7. Primary IDE Channel --> Properties --> 2nd Tab --> Make sure both dropdown boxes say DMA If Possible. 8. Seconday IDE Channel --> Properties --> 2nd Tab --> Make sure both dropdown boxes say DMA If Possible. 9. Reboot Odds are your buffering/cachine settings are fine but something you may want to look into is the Network Cards (NIC)... goto the properties for your NIC and see if the settings are done right... I know that certain SmartLink NICs default with shitty settings (i.e., avg 600KB/s on a 10/100 network... after a couple clicks.... 8MB/s easy)
In the device manager, go into the properties for your NIC. I cant tell you any more because each NIC has its own settings and configuration.
