I have the first series of prison break in .avi files on my computer and I want to back them up onto a dvd, but my problem is that when I encode the episodes from avi to dvd they go from 350mb to 1.7gb, which means I can only fit about 3 episodes onto a dvd disk. I tried using dvd shrink but it didnt recognise any of the files. I was wondering is there a way I can fit more maybe 6-8 episodes onto a dvd disk? or possibly more. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as it is supposed to be a gift for my girlfriend, please help me!
thats relatively an easy task to perform with the right program, but not knowing what you have at your disposal is difficult to offer suggestions. with nero recode you can add titles from DVD files on your HD, up to 9 gig or more can be recoded to DVD5. and the trial version of nero7 ultra is full functional to handle that task. additiony..there are other programs that achive the same goal...but for the all around use that nero7 ultra offers with a long trial period..I would try that the reason DVD shrink doesn't recognize the files is because your conversion program did not write all the DVD compliant pub files that dvd shrink reads...dvd shrink is good for shrinking full dvd rips
With ConvertXtoDVD you can stack as many as you want (almost) into one project. It will adjust the bitrate automaticlly to fit your blank. But note that quality will start to suffer after about 3 hours.
Nero recode does not accept AVI...vision does..but from the first post it sounds like they are already in dvd
no i mean use nero recode to compress the dvd files he already has then he can fit more onto the disk
I don't use much software. Since my main aim is movie's final quality, I use CCE ad TMPGenc, so I cannot help you with other software. But a general trick you cannot do is: - calculate the total length the movies you want to fit into the DVD. Let's suppose you have L1+L2+..Ln = 3 h 10' (don't try to fit more movies in a DVD, or the total bitrare will be too small for the standard DVD [720x480/576] resolution. If you want to put more eposide, convert them to SVCD [ 480x470/576, bitrate = 2500 kbps] or VCD [352x240/288, bitrate = 1500 kbps] (NTSC/PAL). Ales, if you want to put (S)VCD movies on a DVD, you're forced to author them with DVD Lab (see our http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ ) - after that, calculate the average total bitrate to encode with using a standard bitrate calculator. Supposing that the audio is 128 kbps (atandard CD quality), you'll obtain, for 3h 10' movies, a bitrate = 3100 kbps (= N movies encoded V=3100 kbps and A=128 kbps will fit perfectly a DVD5 (4589 MB)). - encode any movie using 3100 kbps bitrate. - author a DVD putting the N movies inside it. This is a rather 'tecnical' method, but it will work. Which encoder do you use?
