hi all, Sky told me that I can not have a second sky (standard)box put upstairs, without haveing a phone line, is there anyway that I could get a sky standard box working upstairs without a landline? I use a sky hd box down stairs!
seems a bit silly as phone line is only for pay per view so you order what you want to see,box needs a valid card and connection to the dish to view as far as i am aware.
If you are looking to get the same channels on the sky box as you have on the sky hd box then yes you will need it connected to phone line. \if all you want is free to air channels then all you need to do is get sky quad lnb and run cable to the sky box.
does anyone know if i had sky fitted you need a phone line.can you use a virgin phone line as i have no bt phone line and bt want £122 to fit a line.
Sky use the phone line to make sure your second box stays at your home and that your not getting it to give to your friends/family. You can get a second box if you signup for another full subscription.
The reason for the phone line is A) is the box still in the UK and yes it can be anywhere in the UK as long as its connected B) It to see what you are looking at ;its the same as the "Talk-back" on virgin media boxes, but once 12 months are up you then can dis-connecte the phone line and as long as the subscription is payed and yoy don't want to use thr RED button Sky while not know where the box is!
To have a second box with multiroom you need to have the phone line connected to both boxes at all times, 12 months only applies if you have 1 box. Sky should make use of the ethernet connection on the new boxes to allow internet connection instead of phone line, i know lots of people who want sky but do not have a phone line. Most people use mobile phones now.
Would the box upstairs work downstairs, could I give my daughter the box downstairs (the main box) and then use the (second box) upstairs, as my main box, dowstairs?
