just let it run. pc seems to operate better that way. mine wont go to sleep, as i have an active connection so it prevents it from shutting down. unless i manually shut it off, hence a thunderstorm or vacation.

Em i cant see why having it in sleep mod would be bad, your better off just letting run like gear79 said.

Then why did the guy told me it was bad? Also if it's not bad why don't people use it?
    I love the sleep mode.

what is your reason for wanting to sleep the puter anyway? i personally thinks the puter runs better 24/7. all my work pc's run 24/7, all my friends pc's run 24/7. there is nothing wrong with doing it, but i am just curious as to why?

I like to sleep my computer cause, I can use it where i left off. I don't need to wait till it restarts. I don't like to run my computer 24/7 cause that's waste of power. Why run it when you can sleep it.

Everytime you activate an electronic device (i.e., turn it on) you are surging power through it. This is, ultimately, detrimental to transistors, capacitors, soldered connections...blah, blah, blah. Kinda' like starting a cold engine. So, you are better off to put the system into sleep as opposed to turning it off ,and on, each time you use it. You'll notice that most newer electronic devices like DVD players and stereos don't really shut down completely when they're turned "off". Instead, most of them go into "standby" mode. This mode allows a small bit of current to pass through the power supply. This allows a more gradual flow of electricity when the unit is switched "on".

So, my recommendation (which is worth about as much as the cost of a cheap cup of coffee) is leave it on or allow it to "sleep". I don't see any reason why "sleep" mode would be "bad".

    As far as P4_tt's comment:
Please, please, tell me that was sarcasm. :/

most newer pc's nowadays are energy star rated too, and in your power options, you can set it as such. just my 2 cents.

Turn it off unless you are downloading, as for the Power surge stuff this is the year 2005 not 1905 electronic gear is a lot more studier now. If i had a car and turned the engine on and left it running i think wear and tear would defeat the engine quicker than cold starts.

Turn it off , save electricity , save the planet and save cash

Think of all the furry little creatures of all the rain forests that will be cut down just because you keep your pc on 24/7.

They will be left homeless. Poor little animals. Weeping somewhere, alone without a place to sleep. :'( That just breaks your heart. Doesn't it.

But then again, power plants don't probably run on wood so what ever... use that sleep mode if it makes you happy. :)

If anyone is wondering why the planet is sliding into the 5hitpan read the above post

Hey i aint a green freak or anything but if i aint in a room i will turn off the light. Why leave something on standby when you can turn it off? It just makes sense to me.

They don't drain that much energy when it's stand by. The pc doesn't run.

No, actually, starting your car is the hardest thing you do to it. Not that that really effects the price of tea in China.

    It's a preference.

The world is sliding into the shit pan for much better reasons. :)
