Hi! I have an old NDS. I am planning get a flash cart. Proberly either DSTT or EDGE. But after much digging, its seems that Slot-1 carts can't run GBA games, but Slot-2 carts can. If i'm not wrong, Slot-2 carts can run NDS games as well. Then what is the advantage of using Slot-1 carts? I have trouble finding Slot-1 carts bundles with Slot-2 flash cart that actually fits onto the old NDS. Any suggestions greatly appriciated. Thanks for reading ^^
The compatibility suffers when using NDS games from a slot-2 card, also every DS game must be patched before you can run them from a slot-2 card. IIRC you cannot send games using Download Play when using a slot-2 cart either (as the games have been patched) The advantages of slot-1 cards is they do not need as much hardware parts so are alot cheaper, DS games are alot more compatible and for most carts can use Download Play. They also do not require games to be patched first (though the cheaper slot-1 cards will patch games automatically as they are loaded). Lots of people do not want/need GBA so why spend more money and time/effort on a more expensive and less compatible (for DS games) product? Those who want both DS and GBA games tend to get a slot-1 card + a GBA expansion of some kind (e.g the EZFlash 3-1) but those are difficult to find for the old style DS. I personally prefer the best of both worlds so have a slot-1 card for DS games (currently using an M3 Real) and a dedicated slot-2 card for GBA (currently either my EFA Linker or EZFlash IV). Though I do keep alot of GBA games on my M3 real should I want to play one of those on my M3 GBA Expansion.
