My computer has Been "really" Slow Lately... Virus Scans are Inconclusive so it cant be a Virus and here are my Computer specs: Windows XP (2002)Home 5.01.2600 (Service Pack2) x86 CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.66Ghz Memory: 512 DDR Storage: 40GB Seagate Visuals: 64Mb ATI Radeon 7200 Series Although My Computer is in Need of a Serious Update It still shouldn't be Reacting as Slow as it does...Any Answers?
1. do scandisk (with box to fix errors checked) on all your hard drives partitions (file corruption will cause slowdown.) 2. make sure your hard drive is set to DMA and not PIO. 3. If the computer is heavily fragmented, it will cause slowdown. 4. Remove any realtime antispyware software installed and just rely on your antivirus. Antispyware will slowdown your computer. 5. Make sure no usb mediacard readers etc are connected all the time. 6. Finally check your hardware sometimes a built-in soundcard will take a big hit on the cpu. Replacing it with a PCI soundcard can speed up the computer. 7. If you have IDE drives, make sure 2 IDE's aren't connected to the same cable and configured the same (both master or both slave).
