Im going to tell you my story. I have sbc global dsl and I beleive its slow. I did a test for it and my DL is 303 and my UP is 300. I have armor2net firewall and I have a router firewall. I have forwarded there ports. You see I like playing games online such as unreal tourament 2004 and my pings are around 200, I dunno why. I forwarded the ports and there still slow. My dl connection to bitcomet is 40kp. Im not sure what to do. Please help! Thanks
well torrents tend to run slow anyway so that probably has nothing to do with your DSL. As for unreal tournament it may be that the server your connecting to has a slower connection than you do which would explain why your are only gettin 200Kbps (which by the way is more than enough for comfortable online gaming). if the DSL tests say that your DL is 303 and your UP is 300 and thats what its supposed to be then i dont see how you could possibly have a problem. try downloading a file from somewhere with a decent server (i.e microsoft.com) using a program like flashget (flash get should max out your download speeds on good servers) to see what you download speed is. if its what it should be then you have nothing to worry about
200 ping is super slow to me when playing a first shooter. You can shoot and bullet and 2 seconds later it comes out. Ill play warcraft and Its very smooth. When I play unreal my ping is always going up and down for some odd reason. DO you know why?
I have Sbc dsl also and I used to get about the same results to you do. Now I get 3008 kbs downstream and 512kbs upstream. Dsl speeds majorly depend on how close you are to the "hub", right now I live less than 1,000 feet from the hub is right across the street from my house. Before when I lived on the other side of town I was about as far away as you could get and still get service now I am the closest user in town. I have other problems with SBC so I am switching to cable the guy is actually coming tomorrow to hook me up". You can get the DSL PRO package that cost $50-60 a month but your dls will still not be very fast, you can move closer to the hub, or you can go to cable.
if your speeds are supposed to be higher than you are getting get intouch with your ISP and they should be glad to help you out. like i said earlier if some games run smoothly online and others dont then its probably down to the server your using to play online
