    hello,

ok so my problem is pretty much that when i boot up my xbox from the HD (90GB HD with eVox build 3935 and M8 bios on a v1.0 xbox) is takes a couples minutes to boot into the OS, as opposed to how it used to take maybe 15 seconds. once in the OS everything is in slow motion, even moving between menu options. also, the fading between screens in so slow you often see 50% of one and 50% of the next.
and the LAN also stopped working for no reason.

this just happened out of nowhere the xbox was working perfectly for like 4 years and no settings were changed.

i must also note that when you boot from a CD this problem doesnt occur, and also, once i am able, after the excrutiating process of navigating the menus, to actually select a game (burnt HD copy) i can play it at normal speed.

so this speed issue seems to only be when booting off the HD and within the OS. what i need to know is what could cause this? bad bios? corrupt eeprom?

in my quest to solve the problem i so far have tried 2 different hard drives and a boot CD-RW, ALL OF WHICH have the same problem. even when booting eVox off the CD. so i know its not the hard drive which is the problem.

any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks a lot!

The bios might be corrupted. Try reflashing it.

tried reflashing. i actually had the M7 bios when all this happened. i just flashed it to M8 and it didnt change anything.

i must say this problem and the LAN not working really look like a problem with the mobo. in my experience with computers it usually the problem.

any other suggestions? and thanks for the quick reply Irshdrunk!

if possible (depending on your xbox version and mod) try an xecuter bios. I had a few troubles with the evox bios's,mind you I do TSOPs...but it was a problem none-the-less.

i suppose i could try, but if i do a flash what if it becomes totally unusable. its a v1.0 with a matrix chip. in fact, i dont even think the MOD is still inside. funny thing i managed to do, put the matrix chip in, flash the bios and removed the chip. the thing works fine. kinda like a softmod in a way.

and another question, if i do put another bios in, would the evox OS still work? or would i have to change it?

I guess if the chip dies, you can always flash the TSOP....kind of a turn around since it usually goes the other way around. Either way you have an alternative if it doesn't work. I think it might be just a bad bios....try to get a different bios file and try to flash it with that.

Hi i just had the same problem running xbmc as my dash on an executer 2 hardware modded box. Reallly slow boot and menu nav + occasional momentary freezing in games.

As i suspected, my 250GB hard drive is crashing. (retry errors slow it down when it access the disk, even in the menus and occasionally in games) bigger drives run a lot hotter than the stock 10Gb drives. I only got just under 3 years out of my 250 and it was running nearly 24/7 for the last 18 months as part of my home media system.

If i were you i would get a new hard disk and copy the data ASAP.
Im using xboxhdm 1.9 to rescue what i can off the 250 and copying it to a new 400.

Its taken me 3 days to work out how to do it, since the drive got so bad it wouldnt even boot past the xbmc logo anymore.
Xbrowser in xboxhdm doesnt automatically mount 2 hard disks either, so i had to work that one out too.
xboxhdm has saved my life!! to rip the 80 odd games from the net again would take forever!!! I tried FTP backup but it was just hopeless and kept timing out.

still copying, averaging about 3Mbytes sec... only doing a few games at a time since i know how long a single 4gb games takes to copy now i know when i should give up and move on to the next game set... so far managed to get everything back!

Sounds like a reasonable sollution....if it wasn't for the fact that he has already tried more than one hdd with the same result. Again it does sound like the most logical so far though.

i already was leaning towards the HD being the problem as well, but since it boots slow off more than one HD and off my evox boot CD, it kinda of got ruled out.
im going to try a different bios, would you recommend any in particular? also, can i still use the same dashboard?
    thanks.

I had a buggered TSOP flash with the M8...dunno why, prolly a bad bios file. I reflashed it with the Xecuter2 4981.67 and everything was good after that. My main problem was that some games would freeze on me with the M8,where-as my personal machine with an older Xecuter2 4976.02 bios played them fine. That's when I thought of reflashing.

I'm not saying that it will solve the problem, but it's worth a try....and it's cheaper if this is in fact the problem. Make sure the mod that you have will support the change...other than that, good luck.
