I thought that I did a post in here and can't find it. I am having a difficult time locating my posts. In other forums you click on your name and then the option shows asking if you want to look at your posts or threads etc. I can't find how to do this here and do apologize if this has been posted. I have searched where I thought that it might be but to no avail. I have a Benq 162I dual layer burner 16X that I have been using very successfully with my toshiba notebook, intel pent 4, 512 RAM, xp, and 1.9ghz. It is about 3 years old now. I use 1 Click Dvd Copy for simple copy to copy and this is used with Slysoft's "Any Dvd". The results are very good. I use Maxell media as recommended from BenQ's telephone support, they also recommend Sony, TDk, Imation.I have asked about others and they simply say to stick to these Brands as they have been tested. Now to my Question: I have tried using Dvd Shrink and Any Dvd and Nero for the Burner for larger Backups and it takes me 3 hrs, from analyzing, to encoding to actual burning. Actually it uses up one whole evening and so I have decided to try Clone Dvd on trial from Slysoft, however find the Trial program scant for information on how to set it up. I can't find aywhere the options, nor literature on it and the site said that a Wizard would walk me through the set up and it did not happen. Does any member know anything about the program?? I really like the fact that I can try it out but I would like to know if I have it with the settings that will give the best back-up, in order that I can decide to buy it or not. Also will this program definitely do a faster job than Dvd Shrink, along the Nero burning program that I was using??? I stumbled through using it las night and it did a burn in 1hr 15 minutes which I thought was not bad. I look forward to comments Thankyou,
Go to the "My Account" tab for your posts etc. For help on CloneDVD click on 'help' to open the user guide and info on the use of CloneDVD. Suggest burning some backups to DVD RW (rewritable) media to test various settings. The settings are usually a personal preference and can be best judged by you on your system. A combination of AnyDVD and CloneDVD usually will give good results at a much faster speed compared to DVD Shrink with Deep Analysis/Quality settings. Some prefer the Shrink results but most don't see much difference. You don't need Nero to burn with CloneDVD (it has it's own burner) or DVD Shrink. Shrink can be set to burn with either DVD Decrypter (in .iso mode) or Nero.
Here is a guide that will help you through the process http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/BACKUP WITH CLONEDVD&ANYDVD.pdf Are you running an external or internal drive. If you are running an internal you may want to check and make sure your drive is set to DMA mode and not PIO. Here is a guide and info on this http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/dvdguide005.html Also check and make sure your firmware is up to date, this will aid in new media recognition and burning.
Thx Arniebear, I have an external BenQ 162I that I have had now for about 3 months. I don't understand what these settings are for an internal burner. I use my external BenQ as both Source and Destination. Shrink and Any Dvd with Nero burning has been so slow with the analyzing, encoding and then the burn. 3 hrs as I mentioned for a large backup. Thus I am looking at the Clone Dvd 2 by SlySoft and looking for comments and as well guidance to a site that may enlighten me to where I can learn how to set this Clone Dvd 2 up properly while I have it on Trial. ( I like to read good instructions, what is available from Slysoft for details is not that precise and I want to enable the settings properly so that I get the optimum performance from the program and make an informed decision as to whether the program will be faster than DVD Shrink with Nero as a burner and Any Dvd running in the background. I see that there was a previous post regarding a site to go to , however I have not had a chance to do that yet. Thankyou for the support and I hope to be able to get the program that will suit my needs, being a Noob. Cheers!
For more info on AnyDVD/CloneDVD1 try CD Freaks; http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=71393 In particular look at the detailed instructions by madbob, some of the info was issured when the progs first came out but it has been updated. By the way the longer times for Shrink with large movies are not uncommon when using deep analysis along with Shrink 3.2 quality enhancements. The actual "burn" time is about the same for both Shrink and CloneDVD (about 30 min for a 2X 'burn'). If you don't use the deep analysis/quality enhancement in Shrink the transcoding phase should approach the time that shorter time that CloneDVD takes.
Thankyou, if I skip the Deep Analysis and Quality Enhancements what can I expect for quality of the dvd backup??? I thought it might be quite poor and thus I decided to use these options. I really appreciate your experienced comments and I will go to the site that you have recommended for Clone Dvd. I should ask if there is any particular reason that you might select one program over the other??? And which one would it be? Respectfully,
If you are using deep analysis and quality enhancement with Shrink you will have slower encoding time, and this is also dependant on the processor power you have. Encoding uses 100% of you processor so never multitask, or have apps running in the background, also the amount of memory you have is a part of the time, more is usually better. Here is an article explaining the encoding time using Shrink. http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47035 Clone DVD is faster encoding than Shrink, there are no quality enhancements, or deep analysis but I have never had a problem with the looks of the backup using this program.
Appa, I agree with Arnibear in that I myself see little difference in quality between CloneDVD and Shrink. You should run some comparison tests using a large movie (Lord of the Rings series) with both programs to see if you have any preferences. Remember that you can 'split' movies with either program allowing full quality. With the low cost of media that is a good option. One advantage in the future would be the continued support for CloneDVD/AnyDVD. Shrink and DVD Decrypter are free and still work but no longer are supported.
Thankyou for the replies, I went to the link that arniebear posted and read about DMA and reread it. Found it to be very interesting. I went and checked out my Primary and Secondary advanced settings and found the following: Primary: Device 0 Device type...."None" Transfer Mode......."DMA if availabe" Current Tsfr Mode..."PIO" Device 1 Device type..."Auto Detection" Tsfr Mode....."DMA if available" Current Tsfr Mode.. Not applicable I tried to change the "Device Type" in Device 0 to "Auto Detection, however it was changed back when I rechecked it again was "None". Can't change the Current Tsfr Mode. Secondary advanced settings: Device 0 Device type..."Auto Detection" (greyed out Tsfr Mode....."DMA if available" Current Tsfr Mode..Not Applicable Device 1 Device type..."None" Tsfr Mode....."DMA if available" Current Tsfr Mode.."Not applicable" I tried to change the Current Transfer Mode to "Ultra DMA Mode 2",in Device 0, that was the only choice and when i changed it and checked back it had gone back to "Not applicable." Then for Device 1, I tried to change the Device type to "Auto Detection" and checked back and it was back to "None". I think by reading that Link I have some problems??? I gather that I won't be able to do any better than "Ultra DMA Mode 2" The Ultra Mode limitation I would assume is probably because it is a notebook??? Toshiba,xp, pent 4, 512 RAM, 1.9 ghz. I would appreciate comments on my findings. Thankyou for your time and experienced and seasoned knowledge. It is extremely helpful to this Noob who wants to try to get the best burning in a reasonable time. BTW, I checked with BenQ Support as well today and checked for firmware updates and mine is uptodate. I look forward to comments, Regards
Thanks for the replies, I have checked with Toshibe regarding the DMA and PIO on my notebook and have been advised that these are setup by the system and are not changeable as in a Desktop model PC. Hed advised that I try to look to the Clone dvd program for settings that I may be able to adjust. My computer is still under warranty and so i continue to get telephone support from Toshiba and we went through both Primary and Secondary Devices and the settings are to do with my Hard Drive and my internal Dvd burner. Since I use an external BenQ burner connected through a 2.0 USB hub Toshiba suggested I contact them and see if there is anything specific that I can look at as far as settings and they said no. And advised the same as Toshiba to see what I can do through Clone Dvd's program. I know that notebooks do burn a little slower, however BenQ thought the amount of time was a little excessive so I will take a look at the thread posted earlier regarding Clone dvd and Any dvd. If anyone else has suggestions I would appreciate it, thankyou.
