After reading and experiencing the many problems encountered in burning and playback I've come to the conclusion that there is no clear solution for a fix at this time.
Is it a burner problem? is it a player problem? or is it a media problem? the combination of things that can go awry from the time you buy your blank dvd's till the end of burning to playback are mindboggling and just costs us a lot of $$$$$ trying to figure out a solution for some of the crap that manufacturers have put on the market.

Seems to me there should be some sort of industry standard that all this eqiptment should work in harmony, some kind of quality control.

    Any thoughts on this???

Most people who do their homework, use appropriate programs and keep their system lean, mean and clean do not have any problems with burning and playback.

With over a 1000 burns, I've yet to come across a movie that cannot be copied.

Would appear that your conclusion is somewhat premature and not entirely logical.

While standards do vary and can be frustrating at times, the major problems are generally due to a malfunctioning interface between chair and keyboard or a poorly maintained system.

Have fun in your endeavour to find the answer to life, the universe and everything - 42 did not work.

What a negative attitude you have towards life PLAN9FOS, no wonder you appear to have so many problems.

Fortunately you are in the minority, so I'm sure that you won't be missed in these forums, and I doubt if you will find whatever it is you are looking for at another site either.

You also forgot to say "and thanks for all the fish".

I was actually looking for a fix for a friend that is backing up his film library, didn't realize i was being that negative although it's interesting how quickly you can get a response when you post something negative, seems everybody wants to jump on the bandwagon.

having a problem with freeze ups and audio cut out on playback in three different players. was using lite-on burner with clonerIII using memorex media to no avail. he is now trying 1 click dvd with either dvd43 or anydvd using top quality taiyo yuden media. any advice on what works best here?

also not familiar with reference to "42 did not work" and "and thanks for all the fish"???

Watch Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe and it will all be made clear to you.

I do agree though that there seems to be very little concern by the dvd burner manufacturers as to what standards are being followed and most of the burning software is still rife with problems that should have been attended to years ago. It appears the the guy writing the program would hardly ever use it or there would be more concern for some of the irritating issues encounted.

I have one of the latest versions of Nero and I cannot find a way to force the program to use a 4x burning speed unless I tell it otherwise. It will always revert to trying to burn at max speed of the media which does not always result in a good burn. I could go on and on with gripes like this one, but who is listening?

Yes indeed, and if you think it is so easy to invent the wheel, then I suppose you know what color to make it!
