Feel free to yell at me for posting improperly, I only go to soap opera forums so this is a bit different for me...lol. Here's the deal: I just got a dvd burner so I can get all the anime off of my hard drive. I like the looks of DVD Architect (If there's better, feel free to share info), but from what I understand, I need to convert my .avi, .mkv, and .ogm files to mpeg-2 format. 1. How do I do that? 2. Is there a program that will keep the quality as good as the original? I really hate the thought of going lower quality since these I hope will become my pride and joy. Also, is it best to separate the different audio tracks from the video and do just plain video alone and add the audio after? Most of them are dual audio with subs and I'd like to keep them that way. Reading the forums just confuzzled me more, so if I sound redundant, my apologies...LOL. The only experience I've had with burning is using Nero for CD-R and RW. I tried to do DVD with Nero 7 with some files that didn't have any special audio needs and all it did was make my picture wiggle a little and made weird sounds. I need more experience, but it really is a lot more difficult than I thought. I'm usually pretty good at figuring things out quickly, but I think making DVD's are my downfall. I'm sure there are more questions, but I can't think of them all. I'm so frazzled trying to figure the stuff out. Any help would be so appreciated. I've always wanted to make my own DVDs since I'm an editing nut, but I'm at the big "where do I begin" roadblock. Nothing has quite made sense to me, maybe it's because the info isn't directed towards me. Thanks in advance.
ok...... the big question for you is conversion...... I recommend VSO's ConvertXToDVD. It will convert your files to dvd compliant format and will burn to disk for you and even make menus! you can try it out for free, although it leaves a watermark logo on the finished product......at least you can get to see if it works for you and see the quality, too! http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ remember ...... the quality can only be as good as the source and can go down depending on the source files! but this is a great program to start with for what you want to do.
Ok, I'm finally replying back. I had some puter issues, but it's all gravy now. Ok, I tried that program and it really does a great job with the video. It looks just like the file I started with. Now the main issue is, the menu is super boring. I like that it keeps it as text and there's no buttons cuz I don't like the buttons. The rest is just ew...LOL. I want to arrange text and separate menus for chapters, subs, language, and all that good stuff. High quality. Just like any dvd you'd buy in a store. Is there any other way of taking care of that? or am I SOL? DVD Architect looks like it's my ideal, but there's the issue of converting to mpeg-2. Every time I try a program for encoding, converting or whatever, I can't get it to be of the same quality. Is it supposed to change it with the Architect? I can't see the video when I put the .avi into it. That's why I figure I should be converting first, I could be wrong.
