ok, so it's suppose to compress a DVD 5/9 down to say approx 1gb. with minimal loss in quality?. This suggest to me it's sort of a encoder (Please correct me if wrong). Does it restore the compressed file back to original as if it was never compressed?
Since they don't make any claims to lossless compression I think it's a fair assumption that it will lose at least a little quality that you can't get back when you return it to a DVD format. Still, it's very interesting and I may have to try it out one of these days.
Did some testing. There is some quality loss, on a scale from 50 (worst) to 150 (best picture quality, bigger file). Converting back to DVD adds more loss, i think. I would gladly post screenshots here, but i have no idea how to capture the exact same movie frame from two or more tests (in WMP and Power DVD).
I found a size difference in the before and afters, but the end result was neglagable as far as I am concerned, Especially due to how much compression is used to make such a large file so small, allowing it to be transfered much faster over a network, or for archiving several DVD's onto a single disc (again for archiving purposes) sure saves enough space for me that the minor differences do not mean "diddly squat" to me! A while ago I downloaded a audio file with a odd extension, that brought me to the website that hosted the encripter/decrypoter (or compressor/uncompresser if you prefer) and discovered what I thought was a single somg by its title turned out to be a complete audio CD in the same space. It took forever (it seemed) to un-compress. That is when I realized how spoiled I have become with WinRAR, & WinZIP (although I prefer to use ALZIP now to save soem space). Due to their high speed, but respectivally lower compression ratio! The more compressed a file is the longer it will take to uncompress it. Just think of how many lines of data are involved before and after. I get dizzy when I even attempt to think of it! This program does soem fairly heavy duty compression, so it should be expected to take awhile.
