Well, you could do a hot swap, but I'd only recommend that as a last resort. I'd exhaust all other options before doing it that way.
You can't do a hot swap without a memory card, because you have to be able to get the unsinged software running first, in order to even do the hotswap. Otherwise, you'd simply be connecting a hard drive to a piece of equipment that would have no idea what to do with your unformatted, unlocked, uncoded drive. You can't code a drive to your system without getting your system's eeprom code; and you can't get the eeprom code without already having modded the system, which requires a memory card. There is no way to softmod without getting access to a memory card, although there are a lot of cheap unofficial ones to be found, I suggest that. The only other way to run unsigned code might be a disc with Microsoft protection code on it, but you can't just BUY a disc like that, that contains anything unnoffical, they don't exist. Anywhere.
well um first off a hotswap can be performed on a modded or ummodded xbox. it is performed for lots of reasons one being to softmod.. still i would have to agree with Venom5880 but if u still want 2 go ahead here it is... [bold]heres the guide[/bold](check out my sig for a pic on what u gotta do) http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/332766
It's interesting that you say that. Because an unmodded XBox cannot read a drive not formatted to Fat-X file partitions, so standard software will not be able to read, write, or interpret the drive. And while you *can* format a drive to Fat-X with XBoxHDM or a modded XBox, and put it into an unmodded xbox; you would literally have to do it each time you turn the XBox on(unless you have the specific system's eeprom code), because without running unsigned code on the system, you can't re-lock the drive. And in order to run unsigned code beyond the linux softmod installation; you would have already had to installed a softmod. It's a vicious cycle. There is no legitimate retail game or software for the system that will format, or lock a drive for your XBox. And there is no way to run illegitimate software, (other than the softmod installer itself) without installing a softmod. And the only way to get the softmod onto the xbox, without FTPing(Requires a modded unit) or XBoxHDM(Requires Eeprom code, which cannot be obtained without first using unsinged code) would be with a memory card. It's all a lovely cycle, you can't arrive to C without first going to A or B. If you still feel that I'm wrong, and God knows I'm not infallible, please explain the steps which would make this work. I've been doing these for a while; and in all seriousness, if there's another way, I always like to learn new methods.
if the Xbox HD is unlocked which happens when the white microsoft logo appears on the xbox, then you can do whatever you want to the HD. Delete/Add files...why do you think a hotswap works in the first place?????? handsom sorry buddy...but look you can do a hotswap softmod....when the xbox boots you do the hotswap and use xboxHDM with a ready made softmod which means all the softmod files are already stored on the E drive and you rebuild the HD with XboxHDM and its copies the modded E drive to the HD and boom you have a softmodded xbox...... there are 2 well-known ready made softmods Ndure made one the same guy that does the normal softmod's and another coder named cockroach...Next time u might want to think before you post
@theridges Like I said, I'm not infallable. I never have and never will claim to have the end all, be all knowledge. And having already stated that in my post, it looks more like you didn't take the time to read it's entirety before suggesting I 'think before I post'. Having said that, it really makes you look like the one who hasn't completely thought out there response. You obviously have more knowledge on this than I do, but if you're going to grind on someone, grind on someone who's earned it. As I said; I'm always eager to learn new methods. That's half the reason that I'm here.
im not grinding at all but it seemed how you posted after venom like he was an idiot...and we all know he is not and i know you arent either thats why i was suprised that you posted....
Meh. If I came on strong, I do wish to apologize. I don't like being grinded, and if I was grinding venom, I am sorry. Either way, I got to learn something new here, and it's a method I had never approached before; so something has been gained. I wouldn't suggest it for someone who isn't modding experienced; but it's an interesting, and possibly useful trick, nonetheless. Thanks for getting back to me on that, theridges. I don't know why that method never dawned on me before. *EDIT* I'm not saying that grinding happened! I have been in flame wars, and have yet to experience anything like that here. My experience with these users is good, and my experience with this SITE is good! (Just don't want anyone to think I'm accusing them of grinding at this point, because I'm not! )
hey man well all that stuff u wrote in reply to my post was very interesting (really) i mean it sounds like you really no what your talkin bout and well not many people have heard the term hotswaping so just forget bout the small fact that you wernt aware of it. Well at least now u no ps. any help just post @psykho hope to hear your progress cheers....
i asked that because i f****d my xbox trying to sofmod(error 13-14-16).i tried all other ways to fix it but i will have to do a hotswap . i'm trying to find the best tut on how to hotswap because i don't want to screw it worst. if someone could eplain the hotswap to me step by step it would be great help. thanks a lot guys
i don't even know what's a IDE cable.ok you can laugh at me but please help me iwant my ms dash back.
ok got it sorry for the stupid question . do you think a hardmod could fix my problem ? i heard of solderless chips could you give me a hint on this and how can i get one?
a hardmod can fix almost any problem......the Xecuter 2.6 with the solderless adapter is what i would suggest...
TheReturn's hot swap guide has a section that focuses on installing soft mods... And yeah, that was a bit strong handsom...
As for the original poster, I have to agree with thereturn, because it seems like it would be easier for the thread author. I wouldn't really suggest he start mussing around with a pc, an xbox, and a somewhat tempermental unix prompt. No offense to him, but I'd hate to see him make it worse. @Venom Sorry I came on strong, I have a tendency to do that sometimes, and it's something I'm working on. I haven't seen a lot of you around here, but if thereturn steps in to defend you; you clearly know what you're talking about. So, this is my due apology.
