I have recently been looking into softmodding my xbox because one of my friends had it done. It all looks fairly easy to do for me, but there is one problem/question I have. I use dialup, and it looked like the only way to mod and download all the info off my box was to have it hooked up to a router. My friend said that his box was never online, and the xbox will set up an ip over your router and whatnot. So my ultimate question...Is softmodding still possible with a dialup connection?
Modding doesn't use an internet connection! What you do need is an ethernet port similar to the one on the rear of your Xbox. Technically you don't even need that! You can softmod with just a Memory card and a game, but that's if you've done this before! Check to see if your PC has an ethernet port and if so, you'll need a crossover cable! If not, go and buy a Network card, they are relly cheap from swap meets, etc. If that's all too much for you, where abouts are you? Maybe we can get it done for you!?
My computer does have a network card in it. So I guess all I would need is a crossover cable? Is there a website to buy one, or do they sell them at Radio Shack or Best Buy? If I would use a crossover cable, could I follow along with the regular tutorials for softmodding, or would I need to do something different? Thanks for your help man!!
Just follow along with the rest of the tutorials! It may take you a while to get your FTP working, but you don't really need it till later anyway! You can get the crossover cable pretty much anywhere that sells computer stuff!
