Nope, the Xbox is completely different than the ps2 when it comes to softmodding.

You have 2 options, you can either softmod your Xbox using 3 different games, or you can put a modchip in.

If you would like to learn how to softmod, check out this site:

If you are thinking about getting a modchip, then read on...

Note: This is something I tell all beginner modders...

First, you will have to take apart your Xbox to figure out what version you have. Here is how you take apart your Xbox: ([bold]Note:[/bold] just take out the dvd rom drive and HD and then stop there! Also, don't worry about unscrewing the HD out of the black shell it is in, as that is NOT needed unless you want to upgrade HD's)

Get down to the motherboard and then follow the guide below to find your Xbox version:

    http://xbox-scene.com/versions_1.php

There are currently 9 Xbox versions available: 1.0/1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5/1.6/1.6b/1.7

Now, you will have to decide on what modchip you want to get:

--If you know a little bit about soldering, I would go w/ the Xecuter 3ce, DuoX 2 or Xenium Ice modchip. The X3 is most definitely the best chip made for the Xbox, but it is also a tad bit more spendy. But you honestly get what you pay for. It is really easy to solder in your chip, especially if you have a ver 1.0-1.5 Xbox. If you have a ver 1.6 Xbox, it is a little more difficult to solder because you have an extra 4 points to solder that are not the easiest for beginners.

--If you do not know how to solder or do not want to, you can get an Xecuter 3ce chip w/ the Xapter or Xenium ICE or S.P.ice which comes w/ a solderless adapter. The Xecuter Xapter (that is what they call their solderless adapter) and Xenium solderless adapter work for all version Xbox's.

Here are some places you can go to buy your modchip...

As soon as you figure out what chip you would like, let us know and we'll give you information on how to install it and what to do after you install the chip.

[bold]Here are some of the things your modded Xbox can do:[/bold]

To start, the most obvious thing your modded Xbox can do is play backup games and imports. But it also can do many other things, like this: 1) Play old school video games using emulators such as NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, GBA, GB, GG, Neo Geo, Ps1, MAME, etc. etc.! 2) Play DVD movies without the need for the special $30 dvd adapter, and also play DIVX, AVI, MPEG, + more using XboxMediaCenter! 3) Load games onto your Xbox hard drive and play them off of it! This decreases the loading time by almost half when compared to using an Xbox game disc! 4) Load background pictures on your Xbox and customize the startup screens 5) Keep a directory of all of your mp3 files 6) You can even check the weather forecast using XboxMediaCenter! There are more things you can do, the possibilities are really endless!
