First off I'm sure this has probably been answered in a million and one threads already but I couldn't find an answer on the first few pages so sue me...
Basically I'm trying to transfer anime in .mkv format with softsubs to my firmware 1.50 PSP, I figure the simplest way to do this would be to convert the file to a hardsubbed .avi (or alternate format) and convert it to a PSP friendly format from there (and this way any answers I get would be helpful to people trying to burn DVDs etc.) but I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this, if there's any 1 program that'll make this is a simple process that'd be great but somehow I doubt there's anything like that just yet... also it'd be great if for future referance/other users you'd let me know how to do this with .sub/.srt/.ssa files and also how to take a multiple audio/sub streamed .ogm file and convert it into single streamed .avi file.
Thanks very much for the help

Thank you, that tutorial proved helpful when I tested it out with an .avi + .srt but unfortunately that raises another question for me, how can I extract subs from an .mkv (matroska) file to .sub or .srt format? Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry, don't know much of subtitles but that first guide has a list of subtitle converters to sub or srt. Maybe something there.

The easiest way i know how to extract subtitles from any format is with a program called virtualdubmod. After opening the program click "Streams" Then from there "Stream list". Then lastly you select the subtitles you want and click "Demux" and save them wherever you want. The only problem is there were a few cases where my mkv file would not work in virtualdubmod.
