I have read on many posts regarding people not being able to convert their DivX/Xvid films as they get the message "Cannot find audio compressor" in VirtualDub. Of course if you have this problem then you would have already tried the "AC3" codec which allows you to play the film in Medial Player but not convert it in VirtualDub. This is because VirtualDub is not compatable with AC3. I have found a way around this!
Use VirtualDub to save the audio stream as a WAV file (make sure Direct Stream is selected when doing this) It will still be in the AC3 format so then use a AC3 converter to make the sound into 2 channels. There are few programs around to do this but I have found a free one!
Goto http://winampac3.sourceforge.net/ and use WinAmp to covert to AC3 audio. Then use TMPGENC (which is what I use to convert films) to use the original video and the new audio to convert the film. I tried it, it worked and it's all done with freeware! You can't do better than that!
If anyone finds this helpful or needs some more help then please let me know!

Why not just use VirtualDUBMOD since it supports ac3 audio??
