    Generally this means that that itunes can't locate the songs meaning it can't play them.

    Do the songs that get skipped when you play them through the computer
    skip on you're ipod to?

    This might be the reason for this problem:
    If you're listening to songs in a shared library or playlist, and your computer is not authorized to play an iTunes Music Store-purchased song in the list, iTunes skips the song. To listen to purchased music in a shared library or playlist, you need to double-click the song and authorize your computer to play it.
    (from Apple support)

    Basically if the songs that skip are songs that friends... sent you over the Internet then you need there apple id and code to activate the songs.

    Thanks for the reply.

    The songs definately skip on the ipod.. not sure about the computer will check when I get home later.

    The tracks have played in the past on the ipod but now just skip past. As far as I am aware I haven't deleted them from the ipod and I assume if you do delete them from the ipod then track info disappears as well? whereas that is all still there on the ipod...very strange!

    Read the following carefully.(lol)

    What do you mean by the songs "skipping".

    1)Do you mean that they get skipped and it goes directly to the next song.
    2)Do you mean that the songs skip like someone stuttering?

    If you mean number"2"then try and play them on you're computer.[bold]
    If they skip on you're computer too then just delete the song from you're ipod and then put it back on you're ipod.[/bold]

    If the songs skip on you're ipod and don't skip when you play them on you're PC then try doing the same thing: delete the song from you're ipod and then put it back on you're ipod if the problem still occurs the same way(they skip on you're ipod but not on you're PC)i suggest you contact Apple.

    try these:(from http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/)
    iPod Issues?
    [bold]These five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.

    * 1. Reset your iPod.(hold on menu and center button)
    * 2. Retry with a different USB port.(can't make it any more obvious)
    * 3. Restart your computer.(that's easy)
    * 4. Reinstall iPod and iTunes software.(delete the current itunes and download it again
    * 5. Restore your iPod.[/bold]

    Go here if you still have the problem after my advice:

    and here's a link to contact apple:

    I have this problem too from time to time. It's a bug, not sure why it happens.

    Make sure Itunes is set for "manage my songs manually," then delete the songs that won't play off your iPod, and re-copy them to your iPod from itunes. That fixes it.
