I have an old Sony DCR-TRV30...and i'm trying to record some stuff on it and transfer it to my computer...does anyone kno of a way i can do this? i can't use the memory stick to record and stuff because..well its only like 70 mbs. too small to record and movie and upload it on my computer. the cd that came with the camera is really old and for some reason does not work. Does anyone have any clue what to do?
Well from what i have read that camcorder has a firewire port so get a firewire pci card (if you dont have firevire already) and then just record on a tape and then capture via firewire using a capturing program. windows movie maker will work and so will many video editing programs
well..i don't have a Firewire card.. but i have a USB cable that attaches to the computer from the camera... but how do i capture from recording on the tape to the conmputer?
dont use usb(i dont think you can either, becuase i think its for pictures, and if it is for video too it isnt the greatest, but same steps apply as for firwrire. i would suggest you get a firewire card they are like 6$ that you can get them for. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815124032 Then in whatever program youre going to use to capture select your comacorder(once its plugged into the firewire) and then just hit capture. There are many guide on the internet for this procces. here is a few to get your started http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials/HowToCaptureVideo.aspx - with windows movie maker http://www.videohelp.com/capture#9;48 - a few here take a look
try capturing with usb, theres no harm in trying, just i have read that capturing via usb does not yeild the best results but if it works for you then do that. but i know on my friends camera the usb is only for transfering images off it. but try and GooD Luck
ok so i got a firewire card....installed it...got a firewire cable instead of the usb cable that came with the camcorder connected it to the camera to the computer... but its not reading it....it only reads it when i switch the camera to MEMORY STICK mode.... what do i do?
so you're using an i-link, a.k.a 4-to-6 pin firewire cable? you should put the camera in playback mode. open up windows movie make, select capture, and hit record. it will operate the camera for you.
hm sry. i'm computer retarded. what do i do? i got a firewire card and installed it. http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pRS1C-2785379_rshalt1_dt.jpg that was the type of cable that connects to my camera. http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pRS1C-2775310_rshalt1_dt.jpg do i have to get something like that?
okay..nvm that...got a firewire cable...got it..computer still doesn't read it though...using Windows Movie Maker
Connect your camcorder using the Firewire cable (as in your second picture), turn the camcorder in VCR mode and your camcorder should show up in the device manager. To check this, do the following: Right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". Select the "hardware" tab and click on "Device Manager". The camcorder should be visible under "Imaging Devices" If it is not there, check if the Firewire card was installed properly. It should be visible in the device manager under the category "IEEE1394 Bus host controllers" as "Brandname OHCI Compliant IEEE1394 Hist Controller" where "Brandname" can be something like VIA or Texas Instruments.
