Well, my problem is that as of yesterday no matter what program I use to burn a Dvd-R I get the Power Calibration Error. I have read the sticky thread but I think my case is a bit different. You see I have the latest firmware and I use only tdks to write and 3 years now there has been absolutely no problem.I have had a few coasters now and then but nothing worring till yesterday. You see even though I get the power calibration error when trying to burn a dvd-r I tried (after I got that error and also had 2 coasters) to burn a cd-rw and succeded then I tried to burn a dvd-rw and also succeded then tried to burn a dvd-r again but got the same error again. What can I do? Thank you for your reply.
Hello there & welcome to Afterdawn, yep, it does sound like your drive has died, or is on its' way out! You could try a different media, as you said it has difficulty burning to - format, but it will burn to -RW! The price of drives is about the same as a pack of decent media. So replacing it shouldn't break the bank. I have a 510a in my second PC, it works really well, but they all have a limited lifespan, unfortunately!
Hey there everyone i jst started gtn the same "power calibration" error and i have used my sony dvdrw 510a drive alot but i think its due 2 the 1.1a firmware prior 2 the updated firmware any and every type of of dvd-+rw all makes loved them all now i am only strickened to using datalot dvd-r and only after updating the firware Someone find out to get a version of the original firmware or ask sony to fix this problem
