I have had my 530a for a month or so, and I have never had a problem making backups or ripping DVD's using Shrink and Nero. But all of a sudden it takes almost 2 hours to rip a DVD and almost 30 minutes to burn. (It used to take 30 min and 10 min, respectively) Why would this slow down so much. When I installed the drive I did the Firmware upgrade, and DMA is enabled. I just don't get whats wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply. I have Nero 6 and as I wrote earlier my DVD drive was burning and ripping at much faster rates. If my ASPI wasn't up to date wouldn't I have not got good rates in the first place? Im just puzzeled as to why my drive would get slower only having purchased it a month ago.
Flush the radiator, change the oil/filter, repack the bearings and put in new spark plugs Can you think of any hardware of software changes that coincided with the drop in speeds? Same media as before when the speeds were good?
As to the slow-down in ripping, I don't think you can blame the hardware- apparently something's up with your system/software. I'd suggest doing an online anti-virus scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com , check for spyware using Ad-Aware & Spybot Search and Destroy. Refresh your native windows system files by typing CMD in the RUN box, the type: sfc /scannow ; you may be prompted to insert your XP disk- is using 98, type SFC. As to the slowdown in burning, try disabling dma; I've had many burners over the yrs. (but just got my first DVD burner, same model as yours just 2 months ago), and pretty much run into every problem imaginable. Alternatively to disabling dma, in your BIOS, simply set it to "auto". Hope this was of some help.
