I'm looking to buy one of these DVD burners for my first burner. Currently the 710A (retail - recommended by my friend) is $30 more than the D22A (OEM) at Newegg.com. Comparing the specs they look the same, except the 710A specifically says it supports DVD-5, DVD-9, DVD-10, and DVD-18. The D22A doesn't specifiy formats, but does dual layer and DVD+/-RW. Am I missing something? What's the difference?

Thanks in advance for your help...

I recently purchased the Sony DRU-710A. I love it, couldn't of made a better choice. Plus remember on the cheaper one, you get what you pay for. Only thing is with the DRU-710a don't buy cheap media. I spent days trying to backup a dvd with Sonic media. I thought I was doing something wrong. but it wasn't me at all it was the media. So I purchased the 100 Pack Taiyo Yuden 102-270-100 1 47.99
    (DVD-R47ZZSB8) 8X DVD-R
    4.7GB Silver Thermal
    Lacquer Blank Media on
    Spindle, No Stacking
    Ring, $0.48 each

Got it at Meritline.com I don't buy anything else. I also just received my first five pack of DVD+R DL disks by Ridata. Let me know if you want to know how that went. LAter

A friend of mine on a/d has this exact burner.
    Sony Dru-710A
The problem is it wont burn any media +r or -r
    (preffered -r) at 1x speed.
(whatever speed you pick it will automatically
    burn at 4x)
All of the firmware has been updated.
has anyone else had this problem?
is there any way to drop the burn speed down?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Look at the specs on the Asus DRW-1604P. I got mine from NewEgg.com also.

See if there is a burner you like that can burn both DVD-R and DVD+R at 16x speeds!
    Also DL at 4x
