I noticed that the documentation on sony site sais these drives may cause write errors on 2x dvd-r verbatim distributed initially in canada and US before october 2002. I just ordered 15 2x verbatim data life individuals and hope they wont cause problems. Is it just sony being cautious, because they only list about 4 types of media being compatible anyway. I guess there just covering their backs with the most recognized disks? Has anyone used these discs in this drive. Also, Is there a firmware update for the 500AX or do you just use the dru500a firmware updates?
Look at the media when you get it. If the SONY description fits what you got exactly...return it unused. As for the firmware for the DRU500AX...it's the most current as it's a new drive model. I believe it's using something like a 2.0 firmware. The DRU500A is up to 1.0g. Don't go backwards.
