I am having a problem and i hope someone with knowledge can help me. I have a pavillion HP a265c with XP, originally it came with a
JLMS XJ-HD 166s cd/dvd rom and with a HP DVD/cd writer 300N combo. After about a year or so i had to change the dvd rom because it would not recognize that it had a disk and it was suggested to me that i should replace the dvd rom with a Sony DDU1622 dvd rom which i did. Iam using "any dvd" and DVD X copy platinum (from 321 studios)to copy dvd's and so far it has worked great. Here is the problem, i tried to burn "X-men 2" when i used the dvd rom to read the dvd in the process of copying, it got to a chapter (16) where it just locked and it would not go forward and it would skip and act as if it wanted to continue but it locked; I tried and tried but it kept locking and skiping; i had to close it several times. I gave up trying to copy it, and decided to watch the movie instead, the dvd rom did the same thing it locked in the same chapter and skiped small parts of the movie. So i took the dvd out of the Sony DDU1622 dvd rom and place it in the writer and to my amazement it played without a hitch, no lock up, no nothing. Why does the Sony dvd rom locks and breaks up the movie in pixels and the writer does not? I am dumb founded! is the DDU1622 at fault here? should i change it? is it going bad? is only 4 months old... Can anyone figure this out and help me with some concise info? I am not a tech so lay terms would help..Thanks

DVD might have a thumbnail print, scratch on it or possibly new dvd protection on it. I highly recommend that you use DVD Decrypter to rip your dvd movies. As far as DVD-Roms, I like a dvd-rom that rips dvd's blazing fast. Some brand name models are Lite-ON 16x and Asus 16x. Be sure your using the latest firmware for your drives m8. DVD Decrypter and CloneDVD2= my preferance :)

I've got the same drive DDU1622. It stoped ripping D-9 pressed media. Not sure if maybe some new encryptions are causing problems with drive. Or it just went bad. I use my burner to do it all now and it's faster anyhow Sony DRU710A. If your looking for a fast ripper go with the Asus DVD-E616P2 you can find it here at Newegg= http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ice=&MaxPrice=&SubCategory=55&Submit=Property

    Good Luck

Thank you shoey and specedust for your kind reply i will be checking all this info out, i am pretty frustrated with this situation, it almost seems as if the Sony ddu1622 does have very good optics or is too sensitive to any problems on the disc. Anyway, I downloaded dvd decrypter but the question is will it work with the studio 321 dvd x copy program? at least in the writing process? I really like the 321 studios dvd x copy platinum which is the one i have, because of it easiness of operation; i guess is time to move on to other dvd ripping software ha? Thanks guys anything else you can help me with is appreciated thanks again.
