Please help me, I've been having some problems with burning dvdrs, so decided to do some research and alter my firmware, which i did, using this site, I went through the procedure, windows (xp) restarted, and said it had found new hardware etc, however I've lost my drive, it wont open, the bios doesnt recoignise it, my computer doesnt show it, and device manager doesnt have a single cd / dvd drive on it! I'm completely lost... I used this site for the firmware, http://isweb44.infoseek.co.jp/computer/type-ive/files/14A_to_510A [1.0c].zip Please help me someone, i beg of you. Dave
Well, it could be something as simple as needing to let Windows install the right driver, it will be the same driver I'm guessing, but since the NAME of the drive has changed you need to let Windows install it for you. Go to control panel, system folder, hit some button that has "device drivers" in it. Look at list of hardware, find cd/dvd's and delete the old device on the list. Restart Windows and see if this fixes the problem. If not, then you've probably got a bad flash of the drive. The BEST flashes are done from DOS, I recently was playing around with my DVD-Rom/CD burner and screwed up a Windows flash, had to jump through some hoops to get a DOS flash to reset the drive (the flash was so screwed the computer wouldn't even open the IDE port in DOS, had to hook up one drive to start the system, then unhook it without powering down and install the screwed drive, then flash in DOS). Good Luck.
Hi, I tried to get the firmware file from the Infoseek site but it appears to no longer be there. Can anyone send it to me? If so I will send you a an email address were it can be attached. Aloha.
