just wondering if anyone can help me here. basically, i am getting a new pc soon for my room, and i plan on using it as a dvd player. i am going to be buying JUST the base unit, as the grphics card has tv out, so i will be connecting via scart cable to my tv instead of buying a monitor. so the video side of thins will be easy, however, i have a 5.1 surround sound speaker system for my room........it has ONLY analogue inputs, it has NO OPTICAL INPUT and i have no separate reciever or anything. so my plan is to buy this (fairly cheap) 5.1 sound card from creative labs, "sound blaster live!" so i just need to know if anyone can tel me the type of inputs and outputs it has, as i have yet to find a website which makes this abundently clear. im am HOPING that it just has 6 separate outputs one for each channel. if not, how can i connect it to my system??? either that or it could have two stero outputs, one for rear and one for front speakers, and then a sub utput and a centre apeker output??? if anyone has this card, please post the exact input and output sickets on the card, THANX VERY MUCH -x-x-x-
Yeah it will have 5 outputs in anologue. Have a look at this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2796378410&category=3701
well............judg9ing by the writin on some of those pics e,g, the pic under technical specs it has:- 1 x Line Input Analogue 1 x Mic Input Analogue 1 x Stereo FRONT Speakers Analogue Output 1 x Stereo REAR Speakers Analogue Output 1 x Centre Speaker Output 1 x AWE/MIDI Port 1 x Coaxial Digital Input 1 x Coaxial Digital Output 1 x Optical (Toslink) Digital Input 1 x Optical (Toslink) Digital Output that's it so where's the SUB output???? how can i connect my sub to a 5.1 sound card if there is no sub output??? it appears to me as though this "5.1 surround sound" card, has only a 5 channel output??? where's the .1??? just confused now.
yeah, i didnt mention that, but i was a bit confused by that as well, none of the 5.1 cards have more than 5 anologue outputs. It probably explains how to connect it somewhere...
well, my only concern is that my speaker syate, has NO OPTICAL OR COAXIAL INPUTS so if it does not connect the sub by analogue, i have no idea how i will do it....... this will mean i will still need to use my stand alone dvd player i'm off to look for the user manual or soemhting, maybe that will explain more??? so, if anyone here HAS a 5.1 soundcard.....could you plese help me understand how i would connect it to the speaker??? thanx in advance for any further help -x-x-x-
OK, I don't mean to state the obvious, but did you go to the Creative Labs website to look for your answer? In about 5 minutes I downloaded the users manual for the Soundblaster Live 5.1 sound card. Here's the address: http://files.americas.creative.com/manualdn/Manuals/789/English.pdf On page 12, in the card diagram, it states, "Analog/Digital Out jack....Also supports centre and subwoofer analog channels for connection to 5.1 analog speaker systems." Hope that helps.
yup thnx for the info i guess i should ahve checked for the manual first :S oops so yes, thnx for the reply now i can go buy that card and my new pc...........to go with my new room, when it's finished, lol THANX FOR THE HELP EVERYBODY much appreciated -x-x-x-
well i got the new pc and i got my tv working as a monitor now but, i got that sound blaster live 5.1 card when i go to TEST the speakers with creative's test, all the speakers work fine but when i go to play a dvd, the centre speaker does not play anything, and neither does the sub ??? maybe i am using bad software??? it's called "PowerCinema" and it came instaled on the pc??? maybe it doens't support surround sound properly or soemthing??? can anyone reccommend a free dvd player software that DOES? -x-x-x-
Don't give up on Power Cinema yet. I ran into a similar problem when I installed a Soundblaster card on my computer. The motherboard had built-in sound support (that didn't work well, hence the sound card). After I installed the sound card, the Soundblaster software tested out fine, but none of my other software was using the new sound card. I had to go to the Windows control panel, then to sounds and multimedia and change the default playback device to my new card. I'm not saying that this will definitely fix your problem, but you should first check your windows setting before installing new playback software.
most of the dvds and music (mp3....) dont have center channel so you gotta generate one in some software with the soundblasted or sumthin like generate LFE channel hope it helps
