When i replaced my mobo, i discarded the internal cable (thinking i wouldnt need it) from the sound card that attached to the front of my pc ( so that you dont have to reach to the rear of the system to plug a mic or headphones in). Now i need to buy one. Are these universal, and whats the proper name for them?
audio cable for pcs & if talking about the cable from cdrom to sound card, there various version but basically 2 that are most used. on both cables 1 end is a big 4 pin connector(sony) & the other end is either the same or has a smaller 4pin connector(panasonic)
does it make a difference how many pins there is? all i want to do is get a headphone jack on the front of my pc
I believe the cable you are talking about is not the one being described to you. You are not talking about the cable that goes from your CD/DVD ROM to your audio card. Those are pretty standard. You need the cable that will plug into the front of your case and allow the function of your mic/headphone right? First you need to make sure your new sounud card supprts this, and if it does you should be able to aquire the cable from them.
its a small, thin cable that goes from the interior of the sound card over to the front of the case, and it has a regular (3.5mm??) jack to plug in a headphone and mic.
Can someone point me where i can get one? And what is the proper name of it so that people know what im talking abouT?
limelight The case is where you should look first to. What case do you have and have you gone to their website to see what cable they have or offer for it. Cases come with those cables attached if they offer the front audio ports.
Yes i just checked the manufacturer website. All they list is the common parts available like hard drives, cd-drives, etc. Whats my next option?
check your local computer store or the place you got the case from if not online buy to see if they have that cable
limelight Do you know the name of the manufacturer of your case? Do you know the model of your case? Can you share this information with us?
The manufacturer is emachines. Model T1742. And no, i dont have the celeron. I called them and they said they dont sell that part.
You are literally better off just buying a new Case with front Audio Mini-Jacks. The sell for $30 bucks or so from local PC Shows, and online. I would breakdown and shell out the extra cash for a good reputable Case and PSU... one that you personally like. -Bob
http://www.frontx.com/ There are companies that sell optional ports to the front such as the link above. Try Newegg.com also if you don't want to transfer everything over to a new case.
