sound problem on xp comp

    just "inherited" a pc but cant get the thing to play sounds
    gone right through windows sound troubleshooter,
    dxdiag cant play any sounds either
    uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for sound blaster audigy 2 sound card
    headphones dont work i'm lost is there any way i can reinstall all sound hardware/software without formatting?
    help please i am desperate

    Check your device manager. Are there any problems?

    driver problem downloaded new drivers but file kept getting corrupted.got sound card mfr to email me drivers end of problem.
