Here is what's in my cart at Newegg. Would like to get any thoughts. I'm not a gamer, but I use a dual monitor set up for trading and also plan to set up a digital audio workstation. MOBO Intel "BOXD915PBLL" 915P Chipset LGA 775 $150 CPU Intel LGA 775 P4 540 3.2 GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache $220 MEMORY Crucial Intel Validated 240-Pin 512MB DDR2 PC2-3200 (2 sticks = 1GB) $285 VIDEO Jaton nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Video Card, 128MB DDR, Dual VGA, PCI $78 AUDIO M-AUDIO PCI Sound Card w/ MIDI and Digital I/O, Model "Audiophile 2496" $109 HD Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive $94 CDRW Lite-On Black 52X32X52 CD-RW Drive $20 CASE MGE ATX Mid Tower Case with 400W Power Supply, Model "CAG-M1-BK" $56 POWER (to replace stock MGE unit) Antec P4 ATX12V 400 Watt Power Supply With 2 Fans, Model "SL400" $55 I spec'ed a similar system at Dell and the prices are about the same. Hopefully I'm getting better components though doing it this way. Tell me if I'm not. Also, do I have the right video card? I had planned on a matrox G450 but I only see it with AGP bus and the LGA 775 Mobo doesn't have AGP slots. Thanks
wouldn't recommend the M-Audio card, only because Digidesign acquired M-Audio a few months ago, so there won't be much support for M-Audio products. When you want to set up a DAW, go with Pro Tools. Its the industry standard. Best audio recording/editing software on the planet. You can get a 2 channel in/out MBOX with Pro Tools 6 for under $500.
