Ok, I just installed a Spider Chip yesterday, and went to flash it today, but got a little bit too excited, and didn't do enough research. I put the X2 bios v4981 onto the chip, and then after I got the christmas tree lights, did some research and found out that it's not compatible with the v1.6 xbox, and that I should have used the Evox M8Plus bios instead. But now i can't flash using the cromwell, since it's now a useless X2 bios. I can buy the external usb spider programmer to fix this, but it's another $40 minimum likely, and I'd like to avoid doing that, since I would use it once and then never again. Is there any program that allows you to flash a mod chip without it having a functional bios running on it? I'm looking for a standalone program like OzXFlash, but one that can flash without a running bios. If anyone knows of such a thing it would be great, or another way to recover from this, otherwise i guess i'm buying the external programmer. Thanks

Not that I am aware of...if there is not backup bios on the chip, then you are left with a programmer or hot swap to bring it back.

yeah, i thought about hot swapping, but didn't want to force a friend to let me open their xbox up, so i ordered the programmer. i hope i can make it work, since everyone seems ot have trouble getting it hooked up right. if i remember, i will post my experiences with it on here when i'm done.
