How can I split xvid avi to two pieces? I couldn't do it with VirtualDub and it said "unknown format XVID"

You need to have XviD or another compatible VfW decoder installed. VirtualDubMod can open the file anyway, but no decoder means no preview so you can't see where you are cutting.

Now I've cut the piece I wanted out but there is still one problem. I can't save the file correctly. I've tried every kinds of "Save.." -buttons but the result is always like ten times bigger and bad quality file. How can I save it so that its quality stays same (and size becomes smaller)?

Set the video to direct streaming (default for audio is direct streaming so it shouldn't need changing). You can only cut on keyframes though.

Now I've watched the piece I cut out with Direct Stream Copy on. But how can I save it?
