ok, when i use TMPGEnc xpress 3 or 4 to convert a video, it seems fine when im encoding it but when i go to play the final dvd on my tv the edges are cut off a little, slightly zoomed in, maybe 7% on all 4 sides. it keeps the correct aspect ratio and everything. just zoomed in a little too much. I have tried a lot of diferent settings for the videos, when i load them it always says "1:1 square pixel", i have tried changing it to both 3:4 NTSC for videos that are full creen and 16:9 NTSC for ones that are widescreen (although most of the time they are shorter than actual 16:9 to begin with). i think i have also tried the stock 3:4 and 16:9 options as well. the "resize" filter option wont turn off for some reason. its set to adaptive, i have tried fusking around with this to no avail also. around when i load the clip i get the VPFFRAMESAVER error or whatever, wich i ignor. then i go to the output options, and select dvd NTSC and choose the apropriate AR. when i output the mpegs they are fine in terms of it not being "zoomed in", as i compare them to the original xvids or whatever they were, but after i use dvd author to create the menues, the folders, the ISO then burn it, the picture is always cut off a little on all 4 sides on my TV. what is causing this lameness. i looked through the "advanced TMPGEnc xpress" guide on this site, it didnt help. I cant call TMPGEnc cause i dont have registered copies (gasp!). there arew no options for resize in tmpgen dvd author. should i just switch to a diferent way of converting videos (namely avis) to dvd? i tired avi2dvd and it does the same exact thing. i prefer the ease of use and variety of options with xpress anyway. Im asuming all i have to do is make a black "frame" to go around the video but i dont know how to do that in xpress. the dvd video it produces on the disk is actualy cropped itself, its not just the tv doing it, because when i pop the dvd in my computer then compare the videos, its definatly cropped a little on the dvd.
You actually need to modify the video resolution in tmpg. I'm not sure if or how it's possible in express. If you try doing it with tmpeg just use a very small section of video 5-15 seconds is all that's necissary and keep playing with the resolution till you get it right.
It's not 'lameness' it's the way TV's operate. Most authoring programs will have a faint rectangle which denotes the 'Safe Area', it's best to keep important elements in it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overscan
I've ran into this before, I had to reinstall TMPGEnc Express to try it, but what you need to do when you add the file, is go to the Filter selection, select the resize filter, select Center (custom size) and then use an aspect ratio calc to determine a smaller size with the same ratio (won't keep when using custom size). Keep playing around with this till you find one that's not cut off, it takes a while but it does work. Only encode 10-15 seconds of video at a time to determine you have the right settings and burn it onto an RW to test it and make sure it works.
im well aware of what "OVERSCAN" is, this is more than normal overscan. i should have said about 14% was being cut off. But i found the solution myself a few days ago: what was happening was i was encoding mpeg files that were much wider than what normal dvds are (and wider than what tmpgenc dvd author can fit on its dvd output i think, which im assuming is fixed because i didnt find any settings for it). when i was checking the encoded video on my computer before opening dvd author it would be able to effectively resize the outputted mpegs so even though the resolution was wide id see it all. the key is to not choose the widest setting when selecting the video resolution after you choose the dvd template. the a.r. will be the same and everything, the video will just be smaller. why tmpgen left this option for the dvd output setting is beyond me, either dvdauthore cant make a dvd that wide or it can and all the dvd players iv played these outputted dvds on are incapable of effectively resizing these wide dvds to fit on normal and widescreen tvs.
The center (custom size) setting will fix this, I have had to use it multiple times to fix this very problem. Try this as in the future it should fix it for you.
