Before you have a go at me for not reading through the forums first.....I already have ( well the first 30 odd pages anyways), and I couldnt come across the info I was lookin for unless I had missed it. Basically I am thinkin about buying a Starview 5 usb II box but I am very new to all of this and ahvent the foggiest what to do. As a result of this I am unsure what I need for this to work other than the box itself and what ive read up to now, the firmware, codes etc. I have been told that i need a cable connection, is this true? Is there a way of doing it without the cable? Ive heard about certain adaptors etc, will I need this? Obviously I would expect there is a tutorial or guide with this information somewhere so I would appreciate it if anyone could provide a link or point me in the right direction please. Any help or info would be much appreciated from an eager noob!!!
I have been told that i need a cable connection, is this true? Yes Is there a way of doing it without the cable? No Ive heard about certain adaptors etc, will I need this? Not sure what you mean???? The SV5 is the exact same as the SV5, flashed the same, works the same, if you look for in the search function above you will find the tutorial on it,
check out the vm website / smartcards. If what is said is true regarding a uk rollout of smartcards this box may prove to be a waisted investment in the short term as all of them will be going off
VM = Very Mean or Virgin Media There is none, once N3 or IPTV kick in, yer on the same boat of pain most folks in Ireland are currently on.
Just had a quick look on the VM website and couldnt see anything regarding smartcard roll outs, but what your saying is that if this happens once new firmware or updates are released, downloading them to your box will make no difference as these boxes will be controlled by the cards type thing. By suggestion I meant is there another type of box with similar capabilities that will not be affected by theses changes?
For cable, then no mate, VM are rolling out cards I can tell ya that and some have got them already, IPTV is being trial run in sth england. There is no Nagra 3 fixed firmware on Cable and hasnt for over a couple of years on Sat, so If you want to get some chans, at present it will be via Sat and C Share mate
Think I need to get the google out for a bit longer to understand all this lingo, then I wont feel like am wastin peoples time trying to find out how to do things. I thought it would be more straight forward from what ive read up to now. 1. Subscribe to basic cable package 2. Purchase SV 5 box 3. Not sure what to do with old virgin box and SV box yet but am sure al fugure it out 4. D/load firmware/updates from sites provided and install on box 5. Do scan, 1570, menu etc and reboot and it works . Yes this is not a very detailed description of what to do but can you tell me if im on the right lines?
your correct on the above mate, but your wasting yer time if virgin are moving to N3, i would rathur buy a cheap 2nd hand box as the Sv5 or any other box wont work on Nagra 3
Any news on the dates this N3 swapover is to take place? I take it there is no box that will not be affected?
as i said above, no fix, so dont waste money on a new box that will last as long as a 2nd hand cheap one
Appreciate it mate, just hope it takes longer than expected. Time to withdraw me membership from the Branson fanclub eh lol Thanks again
