Basically, my grandads starview (its a starview clone if I remmeber correctly) Has decided to drop all the channels as if the codes have changed, I've checked the frequency and thats fine, I've walked him through a factory reset and set up the code emu and thats all fine, when he takes the box to a channel like sly sports it gets to about 70% and the the box just hangs, only way to make it move is to remove the power from it and reboot it.

Does any have any experiance of this, does he need a new box or do we need new firmwire. ( he running the 257 e_E firmwire date is something like august 2006) also I should mention that the box does not auto roll as far as i know, sometimes it does and sometimes it needs the codes putting in manually.

any help you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.

Oh btw he's in the grimsby area ( don't know if anyone is from round that way.)

ok did he do a factory reset 0000 to delete first ,then auto scanned his provider with no splitters on, set default key and emu to on they are beside each other and makes the box update.
as it is a starview clone yes 257 it should have the cryptview 257 patch
to update correctly if not manual input only then, entering wrong data will also make box try and update.

Yes as I said above I walked him through these things

I take it patching it with cryptview is an easy task, as far as I can see I should just flash the box with the cryptview 257 firmwire

as you wont know if it has or had the crypt 257 v1.5 reflash again,do a factory reset and auto scan and set default key and emu to on.

Does it still have it's original 2 pin plug ?
It might sound silly, but change it to a 3 pin plug, I've seen starviews act weird because of wrong polarity through the 2 pin plug(live and neutral mixed up), can cause them to hang or keep rebooting.
