I have a problematic box. It arrived with a "O" on the screen when switched on. "O" as in the part of "On". WHen the box boots up it says "On" and the "n" dissapears. I tried Writing the software with GTRom, but the box wouldnt respond, so i tried Jtagging...

    Init JTAG
    IDCODE : 1D405041
    CPU : STi5518
    Stop CPU
    Clear Trap : Please Wait...
Load Trap -> Ram : Please Wait...
    Load Trap : LEN Ok
    Init Trap : Please Wait...
    Trap_Wptr 80000534
    Trap_Iptr 80000140
    Start Trap : Please Wait...
    Load EMI : Please Wait...
    Init OK :)
    ---------------------
    Init JTAG
    DCU OK
    Trap_Wptr : 80000534
    Erase ADR[7FE00000] : Please Wait...
    Erase success !!!
    ---------------------
    Init JTAG
    DCU OK
    Trap_Wptr : 80000534
    Write Flash ADR[7FE00000] LEN[00200000] : Please Wait...
    Load Data RAM Fail
    Write Flash END
    ---------------------

At this point the software stops. When i try reading again "connect" with skymax, it gives me....

    Init JTAG
    IDCODE : 1D405041
    CPU : STi5518
    Stop CPU
Fail DCU, Plesae Restart or Reset CPU Box

    Init JTAG
    DCU Fail
    ---------------------
    Init JTAG
    DCU Fail
    ---------------------
    Init JTAG
    DCU Fail
    ---------------------
    Init JTAG
    DCU Fail
    ---------------------
    Init JTAG
    DCU Fail
    ---------------------

    Then i switched the box off for a bit and tried again, i got the following result;

    Init JTAG
    IDCODE : 1D405041
    CPU : STi5518
    Stop CPU
    Clear Trap : Please Wait...
Load Trap -> Ram : Please Wait...
    Load Trap : LEN Ok
    Init Trap : Please Wait...
    Trap_Wptr 80000534
    Trap_Iptr 80000140
    Start Trap : Please Wait...
    Load EMI : Please Wait...
    Init OK :)
    ---------------------
    Init JTAG
    DCU OK
    Trap_Wptr : 80000534
    Erase ADR[7FE00000] : Please Wait...
    Erase success !!!
    ---------------------
    Init JTAG
    DCU OK
    Trap_Wptr : 80000534
    Write Flash ADR[7FE00000] LEN[FFFFFFFF] : Please Wait...
Error writing flash at address 80000000 ACK = 00000100
    Write Flash END
    ---------------------

It doesnt seem to be able to write the whole flash. I know when LEN <> 200000 the writing doesnt suceed anyway, but i am having varying results with this box. sometimes it loads half, sometimes it fails in the middle and sometimes it doesnt care about anything.

I am about to replace the eprom to see if that would make a difference. Any ideas?

PS: power to the box is fine.

Sounds more like a hardware fault than a bootloader problem.

Sounds like its shagged have you looked at the power board. How old is the box, was it a clone or 1st gen box.

    thw power board is ok. im not an expert at electronics but the power is coming in as follows;

    3.01V (Board says 3.3V)
    11.94V (Board says 12V)
    26.7V (Board says 23V)
    8.05V (Board says 7V)
    GND
    GND

this is the side thats coming to the board.

    I would assume thats fine?

Its the Starview 1, i think its a clone.. but the person said it just died while just running... im sure it was running the clonesafe 257.

Looks fine to me I have seen the "0" problem before. I found that on boxes which displayed 0 that it was in fact a badly seated S Video board, touching electrolytic caps etc,(The small board at the rear of the box).Another was a bad connection from the PSU.

They all can be fixed but is it really worth it?Try moving the S video board slightly to make sure it isn't touching any of the caps underneath and re-seat it properly after .

The PSU can be checked visually, please make sure the power is off before removing the board,I know that sounds obvious but believe me it is an easy mistake to make, speaking from experience. I know you have checked the power output from the board but it might be worth having a look for any broken tracks or solder joints.

All in all it is up to you as the time and effort taken to do this may out-way the value of the box.

hi mate, thanks for the reply.

Last nite i decided to scrap the idea of trying to fix it. This is a friends box and im taking a look at it for the price of jtagging.

Last nite i took my jtag kit off the pins so it would be a mission to go soldering again (i would need to do this as it seems like the part-flashing has made it go completely off).

After reading ur last post, I took out the svideo card and can see something guey running down it, i think its the plastic thats melted onto it.. so it could well be that.

I dont think theres any point removing or checking the powerboard as the voltage reaching the motherboard seems fine (correct me if im wrong).

But just as from a curiosity point, i am going to solder the jtag kit back on to see if the svideo card was the problem.

also do u know if TMC's Starview JTag would work on Eurovox's? (The guy doesnt seem to reply to emails)

Alas it didnt work. Even with the Svideo card removed. The powerboard isnt the problem, no broken joints or any visible damage. the voltage was fine to the board aswell.

I got the same errors on skymax and jkeys with the svideo card removed.

Ive bumped into yet another box with an "O" problem. what happens is the box comes on saying "On" and the "n" switches off.

its time to diagnose this as it seems liek a common fault
