i've read on this forum the difference between dvd-r and dvd+r, but i still don't get it. Is there's a difference between them, one better than the other??
can i only use dvd-r or dvd+r for backing up ps2 games and dvd movies. i am going to buy a new dvd pioneer can i play in mode dvd+r. Also for ps2 games wich is better.

Now for my last question, will my ps2 backup games be identical to the original?

i've just read that different ps2 changes form dvd-r and dvd+r, is this true or does all games use one type??i still didn't buy my ps2

    THx for any advice.

There is NO difference in quality of disc and burning between the two formats. DVD+R allows you to add further recording if you use a standalone recorder but the main difference up until now has just been the price. The +R format was devised by Sony and Phillips to corner the market but this hardly applies anymore since competition and the release of universal dual format players has eliminated most difference in this regard. You might find that +R discs are still slightly better in manufacturing quality than some -R discs due to the original policy of these companies in using good quality manufacturing technique. However even if this is the case the burning process is exactly the same and you should not notice any difference.

    ssjack,

Trying to keep it simple this thing with the +R media and the-R media could be compared to the thing that happened a few years ago with the VHS and the BETA formats of tape recorders*. Except that with this media the differences are so minor you shouldn't lose sleep over it.

*In reality there was a terrrrific difference between the two. Beta was like Mac's and VHS was like IBM.

Consider that now many manufacturers are making dual format DVD Writers - and the new players being able to play either - it really makes little difference at all.

since the fellas already answer your -r/+r question. ill try to answer your last question about ps2. you got to chek you ps2 version first. if its a v1-v3 it only reads -r disk. if its a v4, it might read -r and +r media(slight number of v4's that can read +r) anything above that you're ok since it reads both +r/-r. the quality of the game doesnt show. to me is the same as the original, ive been using two medias fujifilm and memorex both +r disks and its all gravy baby! but since you said you haven't bought your ps2, youll problaby get either a v9-v10 thats whats out on the market now.
