So I noticed on the thread "BenQ 1620/40/50" with the links for zipzoomfly, that the benq 1650 was selling for $100 US. Interestingly this link has benq 1670 (? any word on its quality?) being only $33 US... What gives?
They almost tripled the price of the 1650 at zipzoomfly.com: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=173836 Benq 1670: Totally different chip setting. The awesome benqs: 1620/1640/1655/and 1650 has the philips chip sets. It also has dvd-ram capability. I haven't seen too many 1670 owners raving about it. Of course the supply of the 1670 will dwindle out,just like the other benq models.

The 1640 and 1620 was ligit,but the 1650 turned out to be the 1650v dvd-rom drive. They listed it like this: [bold]BENQ DW1650 16X Dual Layer DVD±RW Bare Drive (Beige) ***Free Shipping[/bold] $99 for a dvd-rom drive? BullSh*T!
Just a warning: Benq makes as DVD-ROM READER that has same model number as the dw1650 DVD BURNER. I almost made the mistake of buying the wrong one in the past. FYI, I did order a 1650 (burner) when ZZF got them in stock last Saturday, 12/30. However, I too have noticed how the price has skyrocketed over this past week.
@Dunker, Did you get the DW1650 burner or the 1650V reader? I placed my order last Saturday too, easly in the morning for two of the 1650 burners. According to FedEx, the shipment is on the truck here in town for delivery Monday. So I have to wait to find out what they shipped me. And according to the site now, they're out of stock on the burners.
You can log in using the tab at the top left. Then click on Order Status/Tracking. It'll tell you what you ordered. Hopefully they shipped you the right item. Apparently, mine has only been "packed" and not shipped a week after ordering.
Mine has been shipped but not delivered by FedEx yet, and it shows DW1650 DVD burner, but I believe that's the whole issue in the other thread: folks ordering the DW1650 and receiving the 1650V. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.
Browsing thru their web site, they list the 1650V DVD-Rom as item # 173839 for $29.99 and the 1650 DVD burner as item # 173836 for $99, was on sale for $39.99. My invoice had item # 173836 on it but the 1650V was in the box.Could be a packing error but strange that more than one person was shipped wrong unit.
Well, it turns out I won't be getting my burner after all. Here's the story: I ordered my DW1650 on December 31st. I had ordered from them before, but for some reason they wanted to "verify" my order, but only notified me several days later. I did Zipzoomfly's little verification process and they told me my order was "released for shipment today". However, I checked my order status last night and it was still listed as Packed for shipment. I called them today and they said the Benq drives were discontinued (duh, we all know that) and that they would no longer stock them. Zipzoomfly claimed didn't know why more order was still showing as packed. If I had not called them, I'd still be waiting for a drive that would never come. The only good news in all of this is that they probably would have lied and shipped me the 1650V reader like they apparently did to so many other people. Just a bit of advice if you get the wrong drive from them: file a complaint with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, and post reviews on websites like epinions.com and my3cents.com. Even if Zipzoomfly resolves your problem, it's important for would-be customers to know the shenanigans Zipzoomfly pulls.
