i have this wierd problem with my dvd burner (Pioneer 108)

I have a load of 2x dvd-r all purchased from the same batch at the same time. They were burning fine at 2x for months, then one day i could only select to burn them at 1x. (using nero)

I can still burn my 8x and 4x discs at the correct speeds. and the 2x discs burn fine at 2x on my friend's machine. how can i make them start burning at 2x again on my machine?

I hadn't physically changed my hardware or software setup when they suddenly switched from 2x to 1x. Since the problem started, i have updated my drive firmware to the latest 1.20 set, and upgraded nero to version 6.3.0.0. Neither of these steps has worked.

I have checked my master/slave jumper settings and they are fine, and cable are connected securely. My device manager Secondary IDE properties say:

    Device Type - Auto Selection
Transfer Mode - DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode - Not applicable

I use windows xp sp1 pro.

I know there's a lot of info in this post, but after reading through the forums i wanted to make sure i had covered everything you might need to know, and tried the basics.

If anyone can help get my discs back to 2x, i'd be very very grateful,

    thanks for your time everyone,

    -Guy

That probably is the information for an unused IDE spot. Please check again... see if your DVDR isn't in PIO mode.

I have just double checked device manager and under "IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS" there are 2 IDE channels on my motherboard, Primary and Secondary.

The Primary has 2 devices: Device 0 and Device 1:

    Device 0:

    Device Type - Auto Selection
Transfer Mode - DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode - Ultra DMA Mode 6

    Device 1:

    Device Type - Auto Selection
Transfer Mode - DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode - Ultra DMA Mode 4

The Secondary channel has 2 devices, and both have:

    Device Type - Auto Selection
Transfer Mode - DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode - Not applicable

I currently have 1 IDE hard disk and one Sata.

    i hope this information helps.
