Hi everyone, I hope you can help!! I got a new pc back in april (minus graphics card and hard drive) specs are windows 7rc 64bit amd athlon 7700 (dual core) 2.7 4 gig corsair ddr 2 5200 (i think cant remember) 750gig sata hdd 320gig ide hdd 9500gt geforce Right for ages i had no issues ran fine (bare a few os problems since w7 is in beta) i installed a bunch of games a few days ago and then watched a review or something online full screen and then the pc locked up... (was a bit scared as my last pc did that but i just got a new one) played a game tried to watch the opening video which locked the pc up... now there i was thinking maybe the graphics drivers where messed up so reinstalled those and the crash still continued. tried directx and still crashed.. so i decided bugger it see what happens if i skip the intro video before the crash, and well the game played fine for hours which confused me and also made me think cant be the graphics card. so i decided to format incase it was a driver i didnt know about, everything seemed fine the review i watched before that crashed it now played, but when i got my game installed again the video still crashed but it went for longer. i opened the pc up to check if everything was ok and nothing seemed clogged with dust or loose. started the pc back up with the side of the case off and noticed something the case fan wasnt spinning... who knows how long it hadnt been spinning for... called up place i got the pc from and they are sending me a new fan. so basicly after all of that, could the lack of case fan be whats making pc crash?
if Intel cpu then yes, if old AMD then no coz they tend to burn out, wouldn't know about newer AMD's though, not upgraded in ages
error55o, he has a new cpu so fan not stopped. zidey, what are your cpu & possible videocard temperatures when pc crashes?
sorry but key words there are "wasnt spinning..." I know he's getting a replacement fan from the makers of his pc so... ;-) if he knew the temps I think he'd have posted them too and he may have ment the cpu heatsinc fan ;-)
right i didnt know the temps before so i just downloaded speedfan, while running the same the temps are (also its the case fan that is not spinning) gpu: 47c temp 1 35c temp 2 29c temp 3 - 129c core 17c last night the crash happened again a couple more times, now instead of the everything just locking up the screen went black making me thing maybe there is a fault with my card
Right so cant find out what temp 3 is, tho i assumed running at minus is a good thing? so i got everest and the temps seem to be labeled better
could you fill in some of your pc's history? I know it's new but has it had any other operating system on it? did it crash with another operating system on it?
Computers also tend to crash when playing video when you do not have the correct/newest video driver installed.
Sorry forgot to add. Video card may not be Win7 Ready. Or Drivers my not yet be configured correctly for Win7.
