    I have read thru forums and havn't seen anything that specifically helps me with my problem. I use Nero 8 to change avi.s to dvd format and burn them to dvd to play in my player.

    Problem is some torrents when played back on Nero Showtime (avi format) have a small stutter in video that is quite noticeable. When I change to DVD format using Nero Vision, stutter is still there but slight. When i play torrent(avi format) in VLC player, video is great--no stutter. I guess I am asking is there a change I should make somewhere in the Nero program to help me with this?? I would like to be able to get the same quality to my dvd format as when i view the avi format on the VLC player.

    I hope I explained this good enough. All help would be appreciated.

    could be codecs for nero needed or updated? as VLC has its own on install...

    to be hoenst i dont use showtime only VLC/WMP/Powerdvd, but dont judge picture by pc stutter, have you burnt the disc to dvdr and played it on a standalone player? as pc even fast ones get bogged down. sometimes a reboot plays it fine. if not look into codecs

    ------------
    avi codecs:

    xvid = http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

    divx = http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/

    -------------------
    all in one pack which has MOST codecs k-lite mega codec pack

    Thanks for response. Well, as far as burning and playing movie in standalone player, you can notice a slight stutter, but not as bad as original avi file when played on nero showtime. I just don't understand when I play the same avi file on vlc player, there is no stutter--period. I did check updates for nero and everything is up to date. I am not sure how to use the codecs that you mentioned and incorporating them into Nero, though. I have bought and payed for Nero and was hoping now to have to download anything else, but if i have to, to fix this problem, I will. I also have about 3 torrent files, that when i play in nero showtime, I have sound, but no video. Again, when i play them in vlc player, everything is fine. For the most part, I am very happy with Nero, just have a few issues here and there and have no id how to get thru them. Any other advice??

    What brand of discs are you using and what is your burn speed.

    from what you say pionts at codecs

    install the 2 avi ones and see what happens on play and encoding now.

    use gspot on the avi to see the difference in a good play avi and a stutter one and let us know. it will give info on each.

    Wow, now i might have bitten off more than I can chew, lol!! Anyway, first i downloded the xvid codec, then downloaded gspot, when i input the stuttering avi into gspot, playback is perfect(audio and video), when i input the avi that I had audio and no video, playback is perfect. Not sure what all the reference stuff is in gspot but looked at it for awhile.

    Next i used DVDFlick to convert, then used imgburn to burn to dvd, when i play in my stand alone player audio is off a couple secs. Also tried DVDFlick to convert and nero vision to burn, had same problem. Not sure where to go from here. I tried to follow instructions carefully, but could have missed a setting. By the way, I use either maxell's or sony dvd-r and burn at 8X.

    I guess this is truly a Nero problem. 90% of avi's I work with go right thru Nero vision no problem, no stuttering, audio great!! I have a small folder I have been building for my problem avi's. Either they have stutter problem, or I get the audio and no video(when using nero showtime) Like I said when I play my problem avi's in VLC they are perfect!! I havn't given up, when i start to get frustrated I just sit back for a few and read some more posts and wait on you experts for more help, which is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    i wouldnt gauge your avi by nero showtime alone!!! i just played an avi in showtime video stutters like sh*t awful player... that just reminds me why i dont use it! it sucks pants...

    you say they all work in VLC = kool

    try windows media player

    try powerdvd

    try zoom player another free one like VLC very good.
    --------------------

    ok moving onto to dvd flick, which if you didnt know has a built in sync corrector, oh yes! which can be good and can be bad! it can read an ok avi file and read it wrong and correct sync (which it shouldnt do) and make a dvd wrong with sync issues.

    load your avi in to AVIMUX GUI a free app to test sync (not 100% but nearly.)

    load file in top window (right click - add) then highlight file/avi and click long button at bottom of top window.

    which load file to bottom window, then on the audio link highlight it and look to the right box for an MS DELAY if 0 no sync probs...

    this app can save file with corrected sync

    there maybe other apps like this not sure?

    [IMG]

    i would look into your avis as the problem, as an avi can be made wrong in the first place, its called something but cant for the life of me remeber what it is? IVTC or something? or no ivtc inverse telecine? something like that??? which you cant do much about...

    but if your avi do play ok to start it may be codecs? not xvid but mpeg which as you may know is dvd format in mpeg2 dvd compliant...

    maybe try full codec pack listed above?

    also to note a 2 part film = 2x avi makes 1 film sometimes shows a sync delay on 1 of the avi's, but is INCORRECT! just use avimux gui again to add both files and jion as 1 file/film output, should sort that out! so dvd flick doesnt throw a wobbler
