    Hi,
    I have a laptop here with a stripped screw and that screw is vital to the disassembly of the laptop (holds bottom casing to the dvd drive and dvd drive to motherboard).
    Should I attempt to drill it out or is there a safer way to do this?
    Is there nothing I can do?

    thanks,

    Whoops...
    My best guess would be to try and use a flat headed screwdriver to push it round...

    yeah, as in get it to start moving round by exerting some force somehow, then do the rest with your fingers...

    well, there was no space around the screw itself...
    so.......i made some!
    I broke plastic around it on one end and then shoved a flat head sideways...well, i guess we wont have a screw to secure the dvd-drive....but its not like its gonna fall out or anything.
    To say the least, I did some pretty damage to the base of this laptop but at least I got it open (needed to replace the motherboard), so if I didn't open it, it would have ended up in the trash anyways.

    And I really don't like throwing away mobile Core 2 Duo's out, HEHE.

    Thank you very much for the great idea and you may have just saved me a laptop!

    could have bought a screw extractor. looks somewhat like a drill bit but in reverse.

    yes, hehe

    @ddp
    no, it was really small (less than 1mm in diameter) so i dont think a screw extractor would have worked....
    in any case, the laptop looks fine from the outside (i wet sanded it a bit and rounded the edge)...
