Hey, I'm new, but I have some good question, none of which have been really answered in any other posts/threads here.

But here goes, I am trying to burn anything right now, and I get another coaster each time I try. I have used dvd x copy build 4038, dvd shrink 3.1, dvd dycryptor, etc and still no results. I will read the dvd alright, and then as I'm writing something, it will say write error and eject the useless disk.

Now, the weird part is, I have burnt soooo many disks before I changed some hardware, and after a fresh Xp install and a different CPU, I haven't been able to burn a single disk.

    Right now, I have a 1.1 Ghz Duron, Win XP, 1024 PC4000, 9800 pro(cat 4.5 drivers), 80 gig WD, Abit NF7-S and a Sony DRU 14U(something like that) flashed to a DRU 510A(firm 10f).

Before I was using my 2800+ Barton till the Aeroflow crapped out on me, and I'm waiting for a new fan, plus a new 2500+ MP(can't wait...). But with the barton I could burn everything just fine, and now I'm wondering if the Duron is just not up to the task.

I have all the lastest updates, patches, drivers....etc. I just can't get a good disk to finalize. I have tried TDK, FujiFilm, Sony, No name(generic crap), nothing, Memorex.

Any ideas? Do you think it's hardware related?

The chance of you having a damaged DVD drive is between slim and none, and slim just left town. With regards to performance, your computer is amply specced to copy DVD's. Your problem is more than likely software related.

If you uve updated your firmware for the DVD writer and this has failed, then I would consider changing the software you are using to (ahem) backup your disks.

Sometimes if 2 pieces of software use the same file to function correctly, but one piece of software is newer than the other and uses a slightly updated version of said file, you may find the older program stops working properly.

In order to decrypt your DVD images, Shrink DVD is ideal. For copying though, this is where I think the problem may lie - ahem, I have a really bad tickle in my throat at this point; Purchase a copy of Clone DVD and use this to copy your decrypted IFO/VOB files to Disk. I know this combination works, because I use it myself.

Best of luck with this, post again and let me know how you got on.

Oh, and while youre trying it out, i'd buy a DVD-/+RW and save yourself some cash on the coasters...

    Try this well proven recipe;

    Simple DVD Backup Steps

First create a folder for your HD backup. Try to put it someplace where you won’t forget it (i.e. C:/All DVD Work/ (movie name will appear here).

Next download DVD Decrypted (link below) and under mode select “ISO, Write”. Un-tick the box that says “verify”. Where it says “source”, you’ll leave that blank, as DVD Decrypter will find the location of your backed up DVD file automatically. Lastly, where it says “Destination”, select the drive where your burner resides. Feel free to close DVD Decrypter; DVD Shrink will open it when it needs it.

Download DVD Shrink (link below). Open it and click “Edit”, then click “Preferences” on this page we’re going to select “DVD Target Size” as custom and set the size as 4360MB - we do this to make extremely sure that our disc isn’t too large. Then under the “File I/O” tab un-tick “Enable burning with Nero” then click “OK”.

Place your original DVD in your DVD-ROM drive and a DVD blank in your burner’s drive. (Many people suggest using Ritek G04, Verbatim or media boasting “Advanced AZO Dye. All other media could very well cause errors, only the very best media should be used for DVD Video backups. Now is definitely not the time to put your cheap stuff in, although there are a lot of people that have success with the cheaper media including myself. )

Now, take just a second and under “Target Device” go to “Select target device” once there, select “ISO Disc Image”. NEXT, IMPORTANT, tick “Launch DVD Decrypter to burn the output image” box. Finally, where it says “Select target image file”, browse till you find your created folder for your backup and click “Save”. That’s it! Click “OK” and DVD Shrink burns that ISO image to your HD. It then opens DVD Decrypter and has it burn the ISO image to your waiting blank DVD.

P.S. Before you rip with Shrink, you have the option of selecting entire disk or selecting re-author. Most of the time before I rip with Shrink, I select re-author and then double-click on main movie. This moves over only the main movie to the left to be ripped. I don't even bother with the menus, as you can still select chapters with your player.

Don’t use your PC for anything at all while it’s working. -

    Good Luck
