Categorized by the major manufacturers (Pioneer, Plextor, BenQ/Phillips, NEC, LiteOn/Sony) and a misc. category for all others...

I usually read up on hardware/firmware issues over at CDFreaks. They have the thread categories for optical drives nicely formatted,BUT, when it comes to software and media, AD RULES... I usually don't stray too far away from DVD related issues, but I know that the "Freaks" can't touch AD in this regards!!! I share my findings from CDFreaks on drive info here, and I am usually able to give a few words of wisdom about media and the various burning programs gathered from AD there. I am here about 90% of the time, though. I like the overall format MUCH better here at AD...

Someone should take a look at how they have their optical drive category is formatted. It could quite possibly also include firmware issues within each distinct manufacturer subforum. I think that it would be just as beneficial here as the "new" Nero forum has been. AD is my proclaimed home, but I must continue to expand my knowledge base... Maybe a couple of you Senior Members could pass this recommendation along if you think it would be as beneficial as I think it would...

It would be helpful if part of the "READ THIS: Forum Rules " or an addendum sticky included instructions on how to determine which drive is installed as OEM in the cases for those who don't know what type of drive came with their computer or how to identify rebadged drives...

Whether or not this suggestion is implemeted, "Keep up the GREAT work," and AD will always be my #1 choice...
