I'm trying to rip subtitles from an existing original DVD and recompile it from scratch. The apps whic I use are: (a) VOBedit to rip in .sup file (b) Srt2Sup to convert in .srt file (c) DVDlab to reauthor the project (d) Test movie: Shaft (1970) audio English AC3 (6 ch)=>0x80, subtitles Greek => 0x29 After ripping the files with VOBedit I use Srt2Sup to convert them from .sup to srt format. But from this step the generated bitmaps are already garbages. Trying to find out what happend I decided to finish the new compilation with DVDlab. Of course playing the VIDEO_TS folder with PowerDVD insted of subtitles I had !@#$%^&^*. Trying to convert the .sup files with SubitleWorkshop I was not able even to import the .sup file in the app. Also can anyone show me the way to create the .srt file using SubRip in order to import the bitmap files to DVDlab? Can anyone help me to succeed?
It happened something VERY similar to me with the same tools you're mentioning. First of all, it seems SUP files are only good for IFOEdit. What I did was renaming the file onto *.SRT and then import them with SubRip. Subrip said the file was corrupt and that it would create a "fixed" one. Once fixed I saved it as *.SUB and opened it with Subtitle Workshop to adjust time and FPS. I saved it as *.SRT again (with another name) and after that imported it with DVDLab Pro Hope you have luck...
Thank you for your time, but it seems that I need further assistance in my odyssey: I copyied the original .sup file to a new folder and renamed with .srt extension. Further I copyied video and audio files (mpeg and ac3) to the same directory just in case that they have to coexist for the rest of the task. Then I launched subRip app: File -> Open Hard Subbed Video Files -> I selected the .srt file -> The app prompted "Cannot detect input frame rate" -> I accepted the prompted rate of 23.976 -> The app responded "Could not open video file using AviSynth". The same happened when I choosed to change the bit rate. Thus back to SNAFU!
Have you tried this? Open subrip and import the VOB files. If everything turns out fine, the program will recognize as many streams as present on the VOB. I used the suggested method and I hope that I' ve created correctly the .srt file according to SubRip' s instructions. Then I opened DVDlab and generated the specified sequence in .sp1 format as prompted. I noticed that lucks the Greek language from the appropriate option ans I used the *Not Specified* option. After the compilation instead of the subtitles I had [Skipped item nr. ###] for all subtitles! Last minute info: Starting rip the subtitles, for every subpicture in proccess, I received the message: "THIS SUBTITLE ITEM CAN'T BE CHANGED Possible bad Advanced OCR Setup or none space between subtitle lines. Or subtitle item color is changed (press the change color button in this case". I tryied various combinations but no luck at all! Thank you foe your efforts but any further suggestions seems that will be needed.
I think there might be a problem regarding the subject that the sub is in Greek (not a latin alphabet). Perhaps when they do the OCR the problem doesn't recognize the characters well. I ain't sure, though... sorry :-(
Thank you for your assistance. I saved the ripped file in unicode format and then I opened the file using MS Word and saved it as ansi Greek .srt file. Everything was ok then. Many Regards
